Bugs and faults  -

We've just uploaded a new beta version (version 4.4.635-beta) to resolve the slow article loading problem.

It may take a few hours to get the update automatically. Android prefers to install auto-updates when the device is on charge and connected to WiFi. You can use the Play Store app to install the update manually.

Quick reminder: To check your Guardian app's current version, open the side bar > settings cog > about, and then the version number is the last item in the list.

Thanks,

Max

4.4.635-beta on Nexus 5x/7/9. Videos are appearing more than once in articles and they are floating above the text:

Serious issues causing App hangs when loading any article. Android keeps on suggesting to close the app because it's not responding

On Android N NPD35K the buttons on the top left corner look out of place. Same issue appears on the widget.

The "Saved For later" section is not working properly on the beta app. I have saved a few articles and I'm unable to remove remove them. Can we also have a "remove all", similar to the one on the website?

No problem!

Saved for later in the profile is fairly bare-bones at the moment and we're looking at increasing its functionality over time.

I've noticed with the Save For Later sync across the website and app, anything I add on the app is added to the last page of the Save for Later section of the site. But anything I add on the site is added to the bottom of the app list meaning you have to scroll quite a bit to get to what you've saved. Love the feature but annoying quirk!

Under my profile in the Comments section tapping on the comment or reply does absolutely nothing. How am I supposed to go back to that specific section of the comments to add reply? With the current lack of functionality I have to log on to the website on my desktop because doing it on Chrome on mobile it will always detect the Guardian app and take me back to the app.

The "socialised" CiF is not well done at all. you can't find your threads, or see threads in an order by preference as a default, or get nested comments, or edit comments: its a second-class experience. Given the volume of trollery in the CiF chain, I wonder why I engage at times.

I just updated the Guardian app to 4.4.639 and now I cannot open any article. The app just exits.

Went to the Application Manager, cleared the cache, same thing.

We are aware of a problem affecting the current beta version of the app (version 4.5.632-beta).

There is a bug which is causing extremely long pauses between clicking on articles and those articles loading. We believe we have identified the cause and we're currently working on a solution. As soon as we've sorted it we will release a new beta version.

Thank you for the reports we've received and for your patience.

Screen sensitivity is really poor. I'm having to hit the screen really hard to load articles. Nexus 5x, 7 & 9.

There's no sound on YouTube videos embedded in guardian articles. Used to be OK, stopped working a few weeks ago. There's also no way to open directly in YouTube instead

Here's a strange bug report, so it comes complete with a video. The Guardian Australia ad within the app gives a quite unpleasant flickering: but only if it is only partially visible. Here's a video hopefully showing that unpleasant flickering. It flickers on both my Nexus 7 (seen here) and my Nexus 5, by the way, and seem reproducible.

I've noticed that when I select a Guardian article in Google's Now suggested stories list that the Guardian App is not offered as an app to open the link with. Sometimes the latest BBC news app is an option for opening BBC News articles.

I'm using 425.9.6-beta Guardian App on a Nexus 7 running android 6.0.1.

I’ve noticed that if I click on the view full all tables link on a 8 row football league table I am taken to the last full table I viewed.

I often check the League One and Premier League full tables. If I click on the view all tables link on a 8 row Premier League table wanting to see more I end up with the last full table I viewed - the League One table and visa versa.

I can understand that if I use the navigation menu to go to football > tables it is handy to be taken to the last full table viewed.

However from a 8 line abriviated football table I think it would be better to be taken straight to that full table rather than the last viewed.

The photo caption font has always struck me as not quite right, but it was only today I realised it's because to me (moto X 2014, andriod 6) the letters have very slightly different x heights (or maybe just not bottom aligned) and this gives sentences a bobbly effect. Don't know if this occurs on other devices. You can see this if you zoom in e.g. look at 'opposition' - the letters are not all on a common baseline. this MIGHT just be the way the font is, but it's a bit odd and you don't see the same effect on the other text.

I've seen an advert for the national lotteries 'gamestore' in the guardian andriod app. These are games where a user can win money, I think by paying to take part and as such are gambling. I think gambling adverts are violations of the Play stores' developer policy which says "...common violation...Redirecting users to a gambling or betting website where users can earn real money. This includes ad SDKs that redirect users to gambling websites that facilitate real gambling."

https://play.google.com/about/restricted-content.html#gambling

I think you should get this checked out.
