Afternoon Clouds and Lily Pads
One of the ponds along Ingraham Trail. We were out during the afternoon (a rarity) and the clouds were active but alas there was no needed rain. They did add to the drama of the skies though.

Day (and Night)
Here's another shot from my hotel room in Toronto. Last night I posted a night shot while it was raining (link here: https://plus.google.com/112417919317910781482/posts/AWtHTxwBnej). Yesterday morning (before it started raining again), there were some great clouds with sun shining through here and there. I just love the clouds here in Toronto, they always seem to appear in really neat layers.

Anderson Memorial Bridge, Harvard
Yesterday evening +David Q. Cohen was kind enough to show me around Boston as well as Harvard. This is the Anderson Memorial Bridge which was recently renovated. They did a nice job and the new lighting makes for a really great reflection.

How does it feel? “To treat me like you do?….” - In case you are wondering that’s New Order’s - Blue Monday and that song keeps running around my head since this past Monday. If you were out you know what I’m talking about. From 8-9pm at moments felt like it was afternoon. There was light everywhere. I’ve been waiting for a day like this to visit this location for a longest time and at the last moment I cannot believe that I almost changed my mind! I was thinking of going to 360 and I’m glad I didn’t. It took 8 exposures to get the dynamic range in check and mitigate the noise for the clean result. What do you think?

Something Different

Sunbeams Over NYC
When I was flying home from NYC a couple of weeks ago I had planned to be on the left side of the plane in hopes of some good views of the city as we departed. I had a departure time that was early enough that I was hoping for some decent light. Unfortunately, we were late departing and there was a thick layer of clouds from a front rolling in that was completely obscuring the sun.
I have learned over the years that despite what you think is going to happen with the sun and shooting scenarios, that isn't always the way things turn out. As we were climbing I realized the sun was about to pop out from above the clouds since we were now at a higher elevation. I had assumed this would not happen until we were significantly higher and well past the city. I'm glad I was wrong.
We turned at just the right angle for the sun to hit the window and give some great light streaks. I figured this would be completely blown out due to the sun, but I snapped a couple of shots anyway hoping that I thought might have a decent sunbeam shot. When I was looking through my images this evening I was amazed to see that despite shooting directly into the sun I had some good detail in the shadows.
This is a single shot that I used a normal exposure for the city and then cloned the image and made only a -2EV adjustment to it and then processed it with Photomatix Pro as an HDR image to bring out some detail in the clouds that were blown out on the city shot.
