Looking Glass Falls
I’m going to play off of the fall theme of the photo from a couple of days ago, but add in a splash of water! This is Looking Glass Falls, in North Carolina, as seen from the bottom. This waterfall is easily accessible to all, even having a ramp to make it wheelchair friendly. My perspective required a little climbing over the rocks at the base but, if you just want to catch a great view, it doesn’t get any easier than this!
Like the previous shot on the Parkway, this is a 5-shot HDR blending. It was finished up with Nik Color Efex.

Bird on a Rock
The Critique:
The magic of long exposure is visible throughout this photograph. It has turned the sea into a frothy mist and let the sky fold in on itself as the sensor picked up time.
Rich tones, from black to white, show off crisp and soft details. Lovely patterns have formed in the sky to add drama to the scene. Nice spacial components celebrate the vastness of the area. The choice of black and white lets my eye focus on lines and shapes without the distraction of color. The lovely, soft light reveals all - even the bird on the rock who sits spellbound - looking over his kingdom.
What I had learned.
Time collects and when it's collected visually wonderful things happen. What I feel is what I see on my completed exposure.
