For the Small Business Owners
Find your Voice without Losing Your Audience

It's intoxicating.   Somebody "Big"  just noticed your post.  They even  shared it!    Suddenly, all kinds of other  business owners are sharing and commenting on it and you have found yourself in the midst of a vibrant, intelligent, passionate community that thinks you have merit, and something to offer the world.  (It's true...you do!)   The attention can be thrilling and it keeps you on high all day.   Then tomorrow comes, and the post is lost in the mix of other fabulous posts, and you want it back!   Not the post, but the attention...the respect that you felt from the others.  Now there's a pressure to perform again, and create more valuable content that the other business owners will share.    So you write more, and your following grows, and now you're even in recommend shared circles.  IT"S SO AWESOME, but wait....where are your friends and would be customers?  They aren't engaging anymore, and maybe they've moved on.   What happened?  

Don't lose site of why you're here.
Who are you serving through your business?

If your target market is other business owners, you're in luck!   Business and Social Media consultants are thriving in the environment.  It is their passion, and with all that we've learned here, they are in a unique position to help others find the same success they did.   They can be invaluable to your success if their services fit into your budget.  Many offer services or tutorials with very little or no charge. (I highly recommend following both  +martin shervington and +Stephan Hovnanian right now for their helpful tutorials and e-books.)  That's really good  for you, as a business owner, because there is a lot to learn  (You must take the time to read +David Amerland's book Semantic Search).   It is  awesome that consultants are seeing such great success after a couple of years of intense learning.   Here's the thing, though.  They are in the business of consulting with and helping business owners, and they are focused on that audience.   Their audience needs to hear how much they know about Social Media and business strategy.

What if you're a  baker, a landscaper, or a shop owner ?  
The services you provide are to consumers, the non-business owning type, and they don't give two licks how much you know about social media trends or search.    They care a lot about how much you know about the services that you are providing, and how your great service can make their life better.   The Google+ platform, in particular, offers a wide variety of tools (please follow +Ronnie Bincer and learn about #hangouts ) for the small business owner.   You can reach your audience faster and farther than ever before.   You can be creative, have fun, and do what you love doing here.  Your passion alone will draw others with the same interest to you, if you let them see it.  That's what you have to share and write about, your passion and interests!  You can even become an authoritative resource for it.   That's value, and with value comes trust, and with trust comes more business.     In other words, you have to give your passion a voice, and create something your interest group wants to read.   In all of the intoxicating response to your brilliant and thoughtful messages, don't lose sight of why you are here, and who it is that you want to listen.   Don't be afraid to go against the grain, or try something new in your industry.  That's called disruption, and it brings powerful results.   I challenge you to watch +Neila Rey for a few days.   Watch her passion and enthusiasm for her interest group, her thoughtful interaction with other business owners, and the healthy disruption she is bringing to her industry.  

Find Balance
This was a little tough for all of us starting out on G+.  It's new in every aspect of the word, and we all  have to find our footing on our own path.    I encourage you to take the time to find yours.  Use this opportunity to bring balance to your world,  to both your personal and professional lives, in a way that uniquely works for you, and to contribute in a way that only you can.

Learning from others on this platform has been an invaluable experience for me.   I give great credit to +Denis Labelle and +Thomas Morffew for setting early examples of proficiency and professionalism as they coach others in how to make the most of this platform.

Engaging with and listening to my interest group has made me better.  I'm better in my field, I'm better at meeting their needs, and I give better service than I ever did before.  The relationships and trust that we build by regularly interacting with each other has surpassed my expectations.   I use #communities  to create an environment where my interest group can interact, grow, and share.  Through events, activities, and teaching, value is added to give them a reason to keep coming back.    You really can build a community around your business and interests.

Stories of Recovery with Knitting and Crochet used as Therapy

Knitting is just a hobby or passive distraction, right?   Maybe, if you're stressed out from a long day at the office or overwhelmed with household chores.   For those in less mundane circumstances, it can be a bit more.   What if you find yourself unexpectedly out of work, or recovering from illness or injury, addiction, or abuse?   What if the awesome career, promising future,goals and dreams have been shattered by a car accident?  What if the person that you loved the most hurt you the worst?  What if your diagnosis included the words, "Never again..."?

(This is really cool)  Each week, homebound (for whatever reason) members of our global community are gathering via Google+ #Hangouts   and finding a vibrant social community, making connections with others that can relate to their circumstances, and in the middle of a lively, interactive social environment, they are finding hope again.....and they are #knitting .   Knitting is not just an empty distraction, but a re-focused attention that involves the challenging artistic insight of creating, slows down the thought process to practice finer motor skills with texture and color, and provides motivating, rewarding results.  Through technology, those that were once stuck at home and alone for many hours a day now have the opportunity to become a part of something bigger than themselves and their circumstances.   Now that's knitting the world together in a really cool way.
