Day 32 (2018-05-29)
We left Coimbra in westward direction, returning to the Atlantic coast. After shopping in a supermarket in Figueira da Foz we drove to the lighthouse Farol do Cabo Mondego.
One of our travel guidebooks contains a picture of a chapel which is painted blue and white in vertical stripes. We liked the sight and decided that it would be our next destination. The chapel is situated in Praia de Mira where we also went for a walk at the beach (today's photo was shot there).
Not just one building, but several houses painted in stripes can be viewed in Costa Nova. From here we also could see the Farol de Aveiro, with a height of 62 m the tallest lighthouse in Portugal (of course we drove there in order to take photos of it at close range).
In the evening we went sightseeing in Aveiro, which is called "The Portuguese Venice" because of some canals.
The parking lot for camper vans in Aveiro is located beneath a motorway bridge - not the best place to sleep. With the help of a camper app we found a better one in Furadouro, not far from the beach.
Kilometer reading: 5817 km.

Day 25 (2018-05-22)
For a last time we took the bus from the camping ground to the center of Lisboa. We left it in Belém and had to wait 50 minutes in a queue until we could enter the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome and together with the Tower of Belém a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
At about 15 o'clock we left Lisboa. After a few kilometers we shortly stopped at the Palácio Nacional de Queluz, then drove to Estoril and on to Cascais. We parked near the Boca do Inferno, a chasm in the seaside cliffs. From here we walked to the Santa Marta Lighthouse that you see on the photo, and to the citadel.
Less than 2 km further west, at the lighthouse Farol da Guia you can go down the cliffs on a stair.
Looking for a place to spend the night, we followed the road to the west, passing the Forte de São Jorge de Oitavos and the Farol do Cabo Raso. Driving eastwards again, we found a parking lot in a quiet residential area.
Kilometer reading: 5127 km.

Wait! You weren't supposed to see the sun today!
It was a very cloudy, rainy and windy morning, and with the prevailing cloud cover, I didn't think the sun would emerge, but emerge it did, however fleetingly. From the photo, you would think that the sky was clearing but seconds later an enormous "sheet" of clouds swept in from left of frame and the sun was gone again. Whale Beach, Sydney Northern Beaches.

For #seatuesday +Sea Tuesday by +Julia Anna Gospodarou I thought I would share a photo that depicts how I usually experience the sea: below the surface!
While scuba diving, I try to photograph every little "Nemo" I find. Believe it or not, getting the shot can be pretty tricky. Sometimes they are belligerent and try to attack your camera. (That makes a great photo!) But most often they duck into the tendrils of the anemone or hide underneath on the opposite side as soon as they see your camera.
In this shot, the anemone fish had nowhere to hide because their host anemone had already curled up for the night! (January 2013 Raja Ampat, Indonesia)

Devil Firefish
I've always enjoyed seeing these lionfish in aquariums, they are so pretty and very exotic. One of the hotels I stayed at recently had a beautiful aquarium tank in the lobby and I managed to get a couple of good shots in very difficult lighting. I believe this one is a Pterois Miles otherwise known as a Devil Firefish. Hope you enjoy him and enjoy your week...
