Mahamana Express is a "Model Rake" based super-fast train that was named after and in honor to Pt. Shri Madan Mohan Malaviya, a freedom fighter & an educationist who had established the Benaras Hindu University. No surprises that the first ever Mahamana was run between Varanasi and New Delhi (numbered 22417/8) on 22nd January, 2017 by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
Since then, three other Mahamana trains have been introduced.
-- Varanasi - Vadodara Mahamana Express
-- Bhopal - Khajuraho Mahamana Express
-- Indore - Veraval Mahamana Express
This video features the compilation of a full journey on board the second Mahamana service that was inaugurated on 22nd September, 2017 between Varanasi & Vadodara.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shot in May 2018, during the peak summer season in Northern & Western India, the video starts with the early morning departure from Varanasi led by a WDM-3D of #Lucknow. We cross the #Malviya Bridge over River Ganga after which a slippery run follows subjected to the infamous "NCR treatment" resulting in a 2 hour delay at #Allahabad Chheoki. From #Chheoki, we take the bifurcation towards #Itarsi and continue our run in the sweltering heat hit by numerous slowdowns and restrictions.
The only thing worth watching remains the patches of dry and arid forests around #Bargarh (after #Shankargarh) and after #Manikpur enroute #Satna. Satna, which serves as the major rail-head for the famous #Khajuraho temple, is a small respite. The run thereafter is mostly characterized by the offshoots of the Vidhya range along the tracks with the light blue sky forming a beautiful contrast. The mercury, however, kept rising and it became almost unbearable at Katni Jn.
The delay kept playing around the 2-hour mark even as we reached #Jabalpur around late afternoon. The sun was gradually setting and soon I had to call it a day for my shooting activities. A few hours of comforting sleep in my AC coach brought me to #Itarsi Jn an hour to midnight. We swapped our diesel locomotive for an electric one, which to my surprise turned out to be a WAP-1 from #Ghaziabad. A pleasant surprise to end Day-1 !!!
Day-2 began rather drab as I woke up around 5:30 am to find ourselves trudging past the barren landscape of north-eastern #Maharashtra. A short single-line section came up which duly ended at #Nandurbar, along the Maharashtra - Gujarat border.
Our first major halt came at Surat around 9:30 am; we were finally on the Mumbai - Vadodara main line. The last part of the journey was quite smooth as we enjoyed a good run over the plains of eastern Gujarat crossing two major rivers (River #Tapti at Surat & River #Narmada at #Bharuch) and ended up at Vadodata Jn at 11:35 am, delayed by the same 2 hours we had incurred in NCR on Day-1. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#India is a #fantastic #country for #cultural and #wildlife #experiences, and this #itinerary #includes some of the best of these, #taking you to #Jaipur, the #Tiger #Reserve at #Ranthambhor, #Agra, visit the erotic #Temples in #Khajuraho and then on to the #Tiger Reserves at #Bandhavgarh and #Kanha.
#Among the #parks you will visit #Ranthambhor in #Rajasthan and #Bandhavgarh & #Kanha in #Central India. #Kanha; one of the #largest #National #Parks in India #extending over 1945 sq km of undulating #country, which includes a core area of 940 sq km. #Kanha has some 22 species of #mammals, the most easily spotted are the striped palm squirrel, #common #langur, #jackal, wild pig, chital or spotted deer, #barasingha or swamp deer, #sambhar and black buck. Other animals found in the park are Indian fox, sloth bear, striped hyena, jungle cat, panther, mouse deer, four-horned antelope, porcupine and wolf, not to forget Kanha's 200 species of bird!
The other major park, Bandhavgarh, is set amidst the Vindhyanchal ranges and covers an area of 437 sqkm with a series of ridges running through it. About half the park is covered with fine stands of Sal while mixed forests are found in the higher reaches of the hills. Stretches of bamboo and grasslands are found throughout. There are more than 22 species of mammals and 250 species of birds with the most famous attraction being the Bengal Tiger.

The carvings that swathe #Khajuraho’s three groups of World Heritage–listed temples are among the finest temple art in the world. The Western Group of temples, in particular, contains some stunning sculptures.
