Arc of the Shark
+David R Robinson, +Linda Villers and I made alightning Milky Way raid on Shark Fin Cove, trying to get in and out with our photos before we received another dreaded Santa Cruz County parking ticket! Mars makes a special guest appearance in the lower left of the sky.

The Big Dipper
While waiting for the aurora on an Arctic beach, I had this perfect view of the Big Dipper framed by the clouds. You can see the handle begin right near the center of the frame, with the bowl stretching toward the upper right.

Well Hello There, Gorgeous -- Cannon Beach, Oregon
I saw this seagull giving himself a critical - and undoubtedly approving - appraisal in the shallows of Cannon Beach one morning. He stared fixedly at the water for a few moments before trundling on along the beach. Quite a fine-looking fellow, I agree... ;)

What Pleasant Visions Haunt Me -- Cannon Beach, Oregon

Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach at sunset... If you look at the large version of this, you can see the hundreds (maybe thousands!) of gulls and other seabirds that roost on the upper, grassy slopes of the rock. Whenever anything disturbs them en masse, they rise in a cloud from the rock and swirl around it for many moments before settling down again to their roosts.
