Photo: Use Of Siege Ladders Is Prohibited!
That'll keep those Mongols out!

I spotted this signpost on the old city wall in Xian, China. I have no idea what it is telling us not to do. All I could think of was invaders being told, "Climbing ladders into our city is prohibited!" Perhaps it has another meaning.

Photo: On A Clear Day You Can See The Future
It's a little hazy, but we may just get there.

One can look beyond the historical Xian city wall to recently erected high rise buildings that lie outside the old fortifications symbolizing modern Xian.  It seems that invading armies might have been stopped by the brick and mortar fortress, but the invasion of progress has swallowed up what once was the entire life of Xian's residents.

is a park where one may rest and read a while.

Looking down to the outside of the old city wall in Xian, one sees the moat, now crisscrossed with bridges and lined with decorative trees, shrubs and flowers. It looks like a pleasant place to take a break from the busy traffic of this very big city.

Photo: Traditional Chinese dance and acrobatics program - Xian, China, April 2009
Photo: Lost In The Music
He played, but from somewhere outside of the hall.

Our first evening in Xian included a program of traditional orchestral music, dance and acrobatics. This wasn't as bad as the Peking Opera where I couldn't keep my eyes open. I managed to remain awake through the whole program.

I'm trying something new. The original photo had the flutist in the center and I didn't like it. So I extended the canvas on the left, then mirrored the left side of the original frame. That gave me room to crop- but then the blue background seemed kind of empty, so I selected the flutist, copied him to a new layer, moved and transformed him, then reduced opacity to . . . something something percent.
