Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: The rudder plate has a solid metal shoe held on by cleats.
Where the originals had a lead bar let-in, ours does not for environmental reasons.

The purpose is dual fold - the kick up rudder enable shallow beaching in operational use so the metal took up wear and the weight of the shoe makes the rudder drop down again when underway.Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: The project is in its final phase now and we are gradually fitting the ancillary equipment - including the spare fuel canisters. The originals were simply emptied into the gravity tank on top of the Britannia Middy engine and then either stowed or discarded.
Chris made the two tanks and they will be stowed forward of No.1 position.Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Chris had the whole thing together - runs very quietly now the secondary silencer is finished.
The silencer slips over the main one through the engine canopy.Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: slips over the up branch from the exhaust box.Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Our engine has a gunmetal drive but the original would have aluminium alloy castings/gearbox housing.
One of these will be fitted.Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMCj7M7nYRcPhoto: Photo: Photo: Photo: This fits under the perspex window in the aft positionPhoto: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Slide catch (one of four)Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Chris uses a hydraulic pack to ease-off the cylinder heads using the adapter he made for the purpose from a sparking plug body.Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Stern section with reinforced upstand for rudder fixingsPhoto: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Chris has repaired the bodged/gash hole in the exhaust by TIG welding an aluminium patch into the hole.

This was a crude mod to the original that had to be repaired for the purposes of our project.Photo: The electrics (magneto) partly exposed - looking in good condition, superficially.Photo: The hole drilled out by a previous owner is going to be rebuilt. New alloy is to be tig welded into the hole.Photo: This is the water cooled silencer. A total pig to get apart as it is all alloy held together with steel screws. They were well set in. The usual - lots of careful heat and penetrating oil combined with gentle tapping with a pin hammer.Photo: Photo: The Britannia 'Middy' engine is now in our hands - the work begins...Photo: a rare Amal carburettorPhoto: Assembled a rare Amal carburettor. The eagle-eyed will have spotted it lacks a needle. The search continues.Photo: After 2 hours with a oxy-acetylene torch and a rubber hammer along with a lot of penetrating oil, the piston begins to show itself.
