Photo: June Lake LoopPhoto: While browsing around for a waterfall quote I found this and it made me smile. :)

"Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick."
~J.R.R. Tolkien

I had to turn around at this point on the trail due to fading light but I'm definitely intrigued by what lies beyond that second waterfall. It waits for another trip. :)

I’ll hear waterfalls and birds and winds sing.
I’ll interpret the rocks, learn the language of flood,
storm, and the avalanche.
I’ll acquaint myself with the glaciers and wild gardens,
and get as near the heart of the world as I can."

Have a great weekend!Photo: About peace by Black Elk, medicine man of the Oglala Lakota Sioux:

"The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes from within the souls of men when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells the Sacred, and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us. This is the real peace, and the others are but reflections of this. The second peace is that which is made between two individuals, and the third is that which is made between two nations.

But above all you should understand that there can never be peace between nations until there is first known that true peace which is within the souls of men."

Wild mustard in bloom and the Coyote Hills

This shot was made in early Spring on my lunch break a couple years back before I had any sort of ND filters. It was quite a tussle to deal with the harsh sunlight blazing around the edges of the clouds. I made 8 tiff files from the original RAW file with a + or - 1 increment in exposure, denoising each tiff before saving. I brought those into Photomatix for gentle tonemapping to bring back the bright areas as much as possible as well as brightening the foreground which was underexposed then saved as a 16bit tiff. Then I brought in the +1 exposure tiff as a layer and blended it in to take care of a couple areas I didn't like in my working file. Then added a B&W Luminosity layer, adjusted the opacity then flattened the image, took care of some dust spots, then saved as 8bit jpeg. Hopefully, now that I have some grad and reverse grad ND filters this sort of shot will be easier. ;)

#PlusPhotoExtractPhoto: I'm really wanting to hit the road for a photo safari today. Instead, I'm getting started on my work day. The roads will be there though. Hope you all are having a nice Wednesday. Here's to open roads and far horizons...

ps. I love rural road shots. If you do too please insert this tag in your rural road posts. Remember to put a space in front of the # sign.
#roadscapesPhoto: Photo: “The Road goes ever on and on down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow, if I can, pursuing it with eager feet, until it joins some larger way where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say.”
~ J.R.R. Tolkien

Yes, I know its Winter although you can't really tell here in drought land but I my love of paths and roads compelled me to post. :D

#FourSeasonsFridayPhoto: "I try to live my life where I end up at a point where I have no regrets. So I try to choose the road that I have the most passion on because then you can never really blame yourself for making the wrong choices. You can always say you're following your passion."
~Darren Aronofsky (director of Pi and the Fountain)

I like the sound of that quote. Not always so easy to do financially but I do like that concept a lot.

A different view of "that road" and from a different year.

I was able to take a couple days off and drive up to the Sierras for some Fall colors last weekend. This is from the often photographed pools along the Merced RIver not long after entering Yosemite Valley. The black oaks were changing color while much of the low shrubbery was already golden. The dogwoods were brightening up at this elevation with the groves higher near the Hiway 120 entrance entering full glory. It always amazes me how this river transforms from a churning & raging thing in the Spring during years with normal rainfall to a magnet for quite mediation in the Fall. Stop for awhile and breath deep.

While snapping a few frames at Tunnel View in Yosemite I noticed the Moon cruising along and just about ready to go behind the cliffs. The dark processing (and film grain) was done in Nik Silver Efex Pro. The time of day was about 4 PM or so.

We had a large cloud park over the South Bay last week near sunset. It turned into a thunderhead and dropped a few lightning bolts as well as giving us some beautiful light and color. I'm so glad that we were out there to see it. This image is hand blended from 3 bracketed RAW's. I may have used a reverse grad ND filter also.

Its going to be a manic Monday for me so I will catch you all later on. Peace.

It was crispy cold this morning around 20F ( -7C) as were most of the mornings on this trip but with a few extra layers, finger gloves and a flood of endorphins coming through my eyes the chill was forgotten. :)
