Photo: NASCAR President Mike Helton is BACK.  We're happy that Mike takes the time every year and we look forward to seeing him again!Photo: Mike wants to know which dog is Leo.  Nice... ;)  At least 3 of the collard shirts in this photo are NASCAR staff from the NYC office.  I believe we had marketing and legal from NYC there.  All very nice, two of them 6' 7".  Wow...Photo: NASCAR President Mike Helton and key NYC Office personnel (marketing & legal) leaving the Airstream Wagon Wheel...Photo: Sure, kids have their toys, but they also have each other and they're often off somewhere having some fun.Photo: It's actually darker here than the photo shows.  Kids and flashlights -- nothing but fun.Photo: Out of the dark and into the light, for the moment.Photo: Photo: Campfire or movies?  How about both!  Dave's Sit-In Movie Theater...Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: This was a beautiful night, almost too good to go to bed.Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Jim flips pancakes (and thinks we don't see that burnt black one... ;-)Photo: You're looking at the cooking side of our shelter.  A 3am downpour collapsed the middle pop-up.  Thankfully it was a $50 bargain pop-up and not one of the $150 EZ-ups on either side.  If you're in the market for one the EZ-up's are pretty beefy and that tall center peak takes care of most of the water.  Obie, thank you for your contribution... :-(Photo: A quick storm (20+ minutes) passes on through...Photo: Obie heads out Sunday morning and discovers all kinds of ways to camp at a NASCAR race.  This is *NOT* an AirstreamPhoto: *NOT* an AirstreamPhoto: *NOT* an Airstream...Photo: *NOT* an Airstream...Photo: *NOT* an Airstream...Photo: *NOT* an Airstream...Photo: Definitely *NOT* an Airstream...Photo: *NOT* an Airstream...Photo: Obie posing with a mild-mannered Earnhardt fan.  You should see the crazies! ;-)Photo: 3 - 8 - 88, these are this guys favorite numbers.  He's probably ecstatic Jr's sponsor isn't Viagara.  Then again...Photo: Nothing but FUN on Pit Road on Sunday morning...Photo: 43 cars all lined up for the Sunday race.  Not a one of them will look this good by race end.Photo: Disney's Planes movie sponsored Jimmy Johnson's 48 for this race.Photo: Photo: Apple Ale and oil don't mix...Photo: Photo: 'Ol 4-time Jeff Gordon in the foreground shadowed by Paul Manard and the rest of the field...Photo: Turns out this was Tony Stewart's last race of 2013.  The very next night (Monday) Tony got in a racing accident where he broke his right leg and will be out until the the Daytona 500 in February 2014. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn70edurI9APhoto: $20+ million dollars a year to sponsor a Sprint Cup car.  Target and Burger King believe...Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: This photo is actually 2 screens high and 9 screens wide.  Move your pointer over the photo spin your mousewheel.  Sometimes the zoom is in two steps.  Zoom all the way in then wait a few seconds and try it again.  Some photos will zoom in tight.Photo: Bob is Joe's younger brother.  This is the ONLY Airstream weekend Bob has any interest in attending.  He's been to every single AirPocono to date.  Bob and Cathy's enormous efforts continue to make this center circle the best it could possibly be.  Joe would be more than proud!  Although, occasionally we do wonder Joe would have had to say... ;-)Photo: We haul to Pocono Raceway, while race team owners fly in by chopper.Photo: It's mid-morning on Saturday and it's going to be another GREAT day!Photo: Partly cloudy skies and a decent breeze don't lie.  This is going to be awesome.Photo: This looks like Happy Hour, but short of a shower or sprinkle or two , ever hour is happy hour out here!Photo: Look closely, that's Disney's Planes star Dusty landing on the back stretch.  Dusty was a static display on Pit Road Sunday morning and threw us for a loop as it made 3-4 passes on the backstretch before it actually landed.  Nobody but NASCAR officials knew Dusty was going to be in town for the weekend.Photo: Photo: Track President Brandon Igdalsky stopped by to sign autographs for the kids and to check on the adults too.Photo: We're extremely grateful for everything brothers Nick and Brandon Igdalsky continue to do for us.  They come out and check on us to make sure everything is great and they're happy to spend time with us too.  People tend to talk about how great Daytona or Talladega are, but those are both restrictor plate tracks.  This is the only true 2.5 mile super speedway on the circuit.  The 3 differently configured turns make it a real challenge for the crew chiefs.  The unrestricted 900hp engines are under a real strain by the end of this one and more than a few will fall short with engine, transmission, or mechanical failures that send them back to the garage long before the race is over.Photo: This is night 2 for NASCAR President Mike Helton.  Truthfully he's all over the infield every race but being an Airstream owner himself (X2) I think he loves the wagon wheel village.  We keep telling him to have somebody tow his Airstream up for him and put it in the circle.  I think he fears the 2am wake-up calls once people discover he's actually sleeping in the infield.Photo: Yes, we're going to get wet, although this looks like a fairly small cell passing through.  Flags down, pop-ups down, and time to head inside.Photo: It looks far worse than it is, but we're already near 2K' up so these clouds are really low.Photo: Once it passes not only do we have a rainbow, but it's time for Pot Luck dinner.  There's a lot of gourmet food under that tent though, don't be fooled by the title.Photo: No complaints under that tent!Photo: You won't see him unless you zoom in twice (there's a pause before it really opens up) but there's Jimmy hamming it up in the back row!  Jim & Lorie will also be a 5X AirPocono attendee in 2014!Photo: LOTS of familiar faces and some new ones too!Photo: Sometimes there are more Chinese lanterns in the air then you can count.  This is just the prelude to the awesome fireworks show that Pocono Raceway puts on Saturday night.Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Watch for yellow blue and red colored streaks showing up in the follow photos.  That's the AirPocono kids running around during the fireworks show dropping to the grass as if they were in battle each time a boomer goes off...Photo: Photo: Photo: No matter how big the wagon wheel we intentionally leave the segment facing Turn 1 open for the best seats in the infield when the fireworks fly!Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: Photo: That's the star of Disney's Planes movie, Dusty, in the background.  As you saw this one landed on the back straight-away on Saturday.Photo: Tires with lugnuts glued in place.  They stretch off the rim when they're put onto the spindle and with any luck don't fall off.Photo: So excited that Dale Jr might come by, like maybe he left his cell phone at the pit box during practice.  The only one coming to sign an autograph for this young lady is that guy in the bright orange shirt and suspenders behind her.  Too bad, so sad...Photo: This outfit looks vaguely familiar.  All that's missing is the pomp and circumstance.Photo: This isn't a Selfie - it's an USie.  Having fun on Pit Road -- it's a great place to be.Photo: Airstreamers everywhere, taking it all in.Photo: Grampa is either an Earnhardt Sr fan (#3, Mason is clearly a Jr fan, #88) or maybe he's just pointing out that there's three generations sitting next to each other enjoying all of this?  Yeah, that might be it.Photo: Ever been photo bombed from the front?  Mark came running in out of nowhere just to spoil the shot.Photo: Bring your sharpie down to pit road.  You can leave a temporary message right there on the track .  It's sure to be gone by the end of the race.Photo: That's Rutledge Wood of Trackside fame.  He's also the 'expert' on the USA version of Top Gear.  http://www.topgear.com/us-show  Rutt owned an derelict Airstream once, for a very short period of time.  You can hear the details by watching the 15 minute segment from '30 Minutes You'll Never Get Back' on the homepage at AirPocono.wordpress.comPhoto: Joe would send us down here every year to get his Airstream flag on TV.  The tradition continues without fail.Photo: It's fun and games at the end of the show.  Who can juggle?Photo: Wendy Venturini comes from a racing family and has been an on air NASCAR personality for years now.  Check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendy_VenturiniPhoto: Krista Voda was expecting here and shortly after had a baby girl.  Another NASCAR on-air personality you can find her here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krista_VodaPhoto: You didn't think that group photo was a single take, did you?  Good grief why isn't the count-down timer working correctly. 10 seconds PLEASE!Photo: Up, up, and away!Photo: Photo: Sunday on the track, a couple of hours prior to the green flag is busy.Photo: Get your morning walk in on Pit Road.  Nothing like it...
