On this day in 1944, an anonymous tip led to the arrest of teenage girl Anne Frank and her family by Nazi police in Amsterdam. About a month later, she was shipped to Auschwitz and killed.
By this time, 6,000 people at the camp were being murdered per day. Frank's diary survived, however, and is considered by many to be a literary masterpiece.
