One of those moments when you check the LCD screen of your DSLR and know you got a great shot (I shared it on Instagram by snapping the screen not long after), but also annoying that you didn't have a 600mm f/4 to get it with and therefore have to crop in very tight from the snap taken at 200mm...

I'm still waiting on that lottery win coming along which would solve all my gear desires... sigh... ;)

The local's name for the Puffin...

On this grey dank Friday in what is supposed to be "summer" here in Britain, is a little colour and character to brighten my mood.

And of course for +Sam Breach if she's around!

These blighters are tricky to catch! They pass by like bullets and you can waste half a CF card on blank sky or on blobs of out of focus bird...
I managed to get a few sharp-ish ones that I can crop down and use here - no chance of a 30x20 inch print from these though! ;)

Posting this for +Sam Breach who seems to love Puffins! :)

Edit: There seems to be an issue with Google doing a narrow crop here, the full image is viewable by clicking, hopefully they'll correct the error - or maybe there's something new coming...

One of the things I love about the Farne Islands is how close you can get to the birds during breeding season, for all this image was taken at 200mm, pretty much anyone with a compact camera will be able to get a shot they are happy with (see my previous post which I took with my iPhone - https://plus.google.com/111835024921462866899/posts/187LVwRkRcJ ).
Just a pity that the Islands aren't heavily populated with all the species all year round..
Photo: What do you call a group of Puffins?

Seriously anyone know?...
+Chris Miller posted a beauty of a shot of a puffin flying low (maybe landing) this morning, so I thought I'd throw another Puffin shot out there in the vague hope that the weather will improve and I can get back out with +Andrew Douglas to the Farne Islands and shoot before the season is done.

I'll go with quantity of Puffins rather than the supreme quality that is Chris's shot, go check his stream!

+Sam Breach awake yet?...
