We always think of this quote as a foreshadowing of his death, but he's  writing about Luke 16:9 .... which is focused on money. Jesus says to make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.

That's a smaller sacrifice, but something within reach for normal people. God is dealing with me about a major situation where my "wealth" could make a difference. So, this just really got my attention today.
