The Doctor took Amy to her favorite painter, Van Gogh. The story has an alien but it isn't about aliens. It's about faith. Surprised when we realize that Van Gogh was a drunk, unrecognized and almost live in misery? What we see is an acclaimed artist these days, but very or extremely depressed in his time. Amy and the Doctor eventually give him what he supposedly needed to know that their work would be recognized in the future. Van Gogh fell in love with Amy and even asked her to marry him (The Ginger Dream legacy?) . But all this leaves a trivial matter, the Doctor and Amy are gone, grief is clear to Van Gogh, which makes a fixed point in time. He committed suicide or died as happened before. Here is the tribute from the Future to the most amazing Painter in the History of the Human Kind.
D. Black [Museum Curator]: Well ... one ... big question, but, to me Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly the most popular, great painter of all time. The most beloved, his command of color most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world, no one had ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again. To my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world's greatest artist, but Also one of the greatest men who ever lived.
Van Gogh can not stand, his dowry, his vision of the world, the universe, the loss, the passion, the loneliness, his illness.
On real life - Van Gogh suffered a new crisis that was "the starting point for one of the saddest episodes in a life already rife with sad events". Hughes writes "had fits of despair and hallucination during which he could not work, and in between them, long clear months in which he could and did, punctuated by extreme visionary ecstasy." Theo reported his brother's[Van Gogh] last words as "The sadness will last forever."
