It was here I encountered an old woman who didn't look a day over 60, but was actually 84, who talked to me - in good English - which she said she had learned straight after the war when she had worked for a couple of years (maybe up to 5, she said) on a nearby American base. She said Sanyo has been a presence here from before the war, and used to manufacture planes. While talking, two little boys - brothers - would run up and yell "Hello!" and shake my hand.
