Photo: The license plate on our rental car - we knew right away we had chosen the perfect place! :)Photo: The weather was gorgeous and the city was spectacular! One tree lined street fully decked out in the latest fashions :)Photo: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: Exploring China Town! Where we found some very tasty lunch choices. Yum!Photo: A quick day trip down to Sorrento Beach. The town was very cute and bustling with holiday seekers.Photo: Photo: That next morning, we were off to the Peninsula once more for Ross's running of the Two Bays Run - a 28km event across the peninsula. Here, Everett was very patiently waiting for Daddy at the finish line.Photo: Great little coffee shop where Everett and I had breakfast as Ross ran his race!Photo: There he is! After an unexpected stop to help a fellow athlete who'd fallen and hurt themselves quite badly, Ross had been delayed almost 45mins. Once he got back up and going again, the rest of the pack had already headed on, leaving him to run the trail on his own. Which, gave him the chance to see seven kangaroos along the way!Photo: What a run!Photo: Enjoying a walk from our place to the center along the river - a walk we did almost daily!Photo: Photo: Just after we arrived, the Australian Open kicked off in Melbourne. Melbourne has a great tradition of using one of their main squares to host popular events for the public. One day, while wandering around town we stumbled on the crowd engrossed in this match between Serena Williams and Ana Ivanovic - it was pretty tense there for a bit!Photo: We loved our little house just near the Botanic Gardens (where we spent loads of time) and Everett particularly liked the big bathtub!Photo: Melbourne city center!Photo: A little bar built right under the pedestrian bridge!Photo: Our first Koala sighting :) We were fortunate enough to be able to make it down to Healesville Sanctuary one Saturday to see some of Australia's most popular natives. Their Koala exhibit was great and even had a few babies about!Photo: This guy was very curious about our camera :)Photo: Baby koala!Photo: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: Throughout the park, the exhibits are primarily open, so you'r able to get quite close to the wildlife. These kangaroos couldn't have cared less that we were there! Haha!Photo: Beautiful, beautiful birds!Photo: Everett's nanny Lauren joined as well!Photo: Daddy and Everett on the banks of the Yarra river!Photo: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: We were also in town for Australia Day - January 26th!Photo: We had a great view of the parade, but were quite surprised that it actually seemed to be more about the other nations that were represented in Melbourne, e.g. Samoan Cultural Club, than about Australia.Photo: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: This antique bike club was great!Photo: And Everett thoroughly enjoyed himself!Photo: Ross kept on training! Even in the heat of 45C degree weather. He had a marathon to complete in just a few short weeks!Photo: And all that running must have inspired Everett because in this little space, completely unprompted, Everett took his first unaided steps! From the cot to the bed stand without any trouble!! Yayyyyyy Everett!!!!Video: Practicing, practicing!Photo: Playing in the park!Photo: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: Breakfast at our favorite brunch spot in Melbourne - Top Paddock.Photo: These pancakes of theirs are so amazing - never have we ever had pancakes so good. AMAZING!Photo: Our beautiful friends Lakis and Eleni from across the hall. Several gorgeous evenings were spent with them and we can't wait for our next opportunity to see them - wherever in the world that may be!Photo: And then there was a Broncos Superbowl to watch! Thankfully, we found a great place in the center, along the water to watch the showdown - Seattle vs Denver!Photo: The crowd was mesmerized....Photo: And then, very upset. :(Photo: Even Melbourne city center had come out in support of the Superbowl and New York (where it was hosted).Photo: But the Broncos fans were sorely disappointed when the team neglected to appear...maybe next year?Photo: Just a few days later however, we got some great news! Our friends Manuel and Norma and their kids Ale and Mia arrived in Melbourne!Photo: One afternoon, we got the whole gang together and took advantage of one of Melbourne's main attractions - a public BBQ station!Photo: Hi Manuel!Photo: Lakis and Manuel both spent most of their youth in Germany so they had lots to discuss.Photo: Photo: Beautiful afternoon in the park!Photo: During that afternoon in the park, the group of us decided to take a weekend trip together and go out to see the 12 Apostles along the Great Ocean Road. We'd made a reservation for all of us to stay at a great house, but turned out it was about an hour further along than we wanted to go (especially for the kiddos). So we took the next available option...an old farmhouse about 20mins from the Apostles...Photo: The gardens were beautiful...Photo: But we should have taken a hint from this little fellow...Photo: Because there were TWO of these Huntsman Spiders alive and well inside the house! This is a snapshot of the camera screen of Manuel's camera as none of the rest of us were up for getting that close! Yikes!!Photo: After quite a lot of convincing and realizing we didn't have many other options - we ended up staying and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!Photo: Certainly a memory for the record books :) Green kitchen and all.Photo: The next morning we were off to see the Apostles! And this is what greeted us. We almost stopped and turned back at that very moment :)Photo: But we figured if we could handle spiders that big, we could certainly handle snakes...and we're so glad we did - breathtaking!Photo: And very windy :)Photo: But please, be careful!Photo: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPhoto: Ross, Manuel, and Ale even took advantage of the helicopter tours!Photo: What a view!Video: Back home again Everett got very excited about his johnny jumper and couldn't get enough :)Photo: We have Facebook to thank for this wonderful encounter. Julie had a quick stopover in Melbourne during a cruise she was taking and we were lucky enough to meet her at the port. It had been years and years since we saw each other and Ross and Everett had never had the chance to meet her. We're so glad our paths crossed again!Photo: A few more visits to the parks around...Photo: Where we also came across this great idea! A drinking fountain where the excess pours into the dog bowl at the bottom (which can be quickly lifted and emptied to refresh). What an excellent idea! They need these everywhere!Photo: Before we knew it, we were on our way! Thank you Melbourne for such an excellent stay!
