Photo: Bench with a View I just love the little bench on the left, couldn't you just sit there forever and take in this view??? Living in a large metropolitan area with lots of light pollution and not many stars visible, I wouldn't have believed it possible to get a photo of the Milky Way from anywhere nearby. The last time Alex and I wanted to try star trails and night sky photos, we had to drive a few hours from here to darker skies. But with some advance planning ( ...the software says the Milky Way will be visible to the south after 11pm... ), some clear skies and plenty of luck, Alex and I were able to photograph the Milky Way over the Pigeon Point lighthouse last Friday night!  I still can't believe it worked! Special thanks to +Darryl Van Gaal and +Robin Griggs Wood whose support, help and mentoring set us on this path. We have a couple of other spots in mind to try out soon... Instead of sunset, we were completely socked in with fog. But as the lights in town started coming on, something was bright enough to light up the fog and give me this wonderful glow.
