The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has named Information International Associates (IIa) its Woman-owned Small Business for FY2014. Bonnie C. Carroll, IIa founder and CEO, accepted the award at the 14th Annual DOE Small Business Forum and Expo in Phoenix, Arizona, on June 17, 2015, from John Hale, III, director of the DOE Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization.
Each year, DOE recognizes the exceptional performance of a woman-owned small business directly contributing to the accomplishments of core DOE mission objectives and requirements.  In presenting the award, Hale cited IIa’s innovation and technical solutions which exceeded contract requirements in responding to cyber security concerns, as well as its exceptional customer service and efficiency. DOE, the largest civilian contracting agency within the federal government, awarded a total of $6.6 billion in contracts in FY 2014 to prime and subcontracts.
IIa was nominated by the DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) for its “continuous innovation and commitment to excellence and achievement on the core mission work OSTI performs with the DOE Office of Science.”  Since 2001, IIa has provided OSTI with a full range of information technology (IT) infrastructure services, including IT infrastructure support, application development, information science, creative electronic arts and web design, and outreach support.
The nomination praised IIa’s “commitment to and knowledge of the scientific community, its passion and track record for service to the core DOE mission, its innovative approach to solving complex IT challenges, and its willingness and adeptness in establishing and maintaining robust national and international interfaces, all of which have contributed to a long-standing excellent and reliable service to DOE.”
Accepting the award, Carroll said “For the past 27 years, IIa has enjoyed an outstanding relationship with the Department, and I am honored to accept this award on behalf of our OSTI team and the 210 employees of IIa. Although our business started in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a community shaped by the advent of atomic energy and with a significant DOE presence today, IIa has grown to become a player in national and international scientific and technical information.”
With headquarters in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and offices in Alexandria, Virginia, IIa has partnered with DOE since 1988, when the company was established. From its Oak Ridge offices, IIa manages contracts with OSTI and Oak Ridge National Laboratory; the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, and in the United Kingdom; the Institute of Museum and Library Services in Washington, DC; and others.
In the National Capital Region, IIa manages contracts with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; the Environmental Protection Agency; the Department of Defense Technical Information Center; the Army Corps Research Labs in Vicksburg, Mississippi; and three letter agencies in the intelligence community.  II also works with a federal government interagency consortium of 13 major scientific and technical program offices of eight Cabinet level agencies, four independent agencies, and a Legislative Branch agency.
IIa supports information and mission requirements for government and industry by providing innovative solutions in IT, knowledge organization and management, and knowledge exploitation. IIa is an ISO 9001:2008 registered company. IIa IT services are ISO/IEC 20000:2011 certified.
