Photo: Our friend Roger Sayre stayed with us the week before Memorial Day. He wanted to go up to Venice, an hour and a half train trip from Bologna. Chris didn't feel like joining, so Roger and I took a day to take in the pleasures of Venice.

After arriving in Venice, we started our sightseeing with a vaporetto trip up the Grand Canal from the train station.Photo: We traveled as far as the Rialto Bridge, and walked through the market. These are anchovies, Rialto Markets.Photo: Beautiful white asparagus, Rialto MarketsPhoto: I love how they sell clams and mussels in Italy. Wish we could get them this way!Photo: We came across a house that had a back yard with grass! Who'd a thought Venice had any lawns? I had to take a picture.Photo: Looking up the Grand Canal towards the Rialto BridgePhoto: Roger in VenicePhoto: Another view of the Grand CanalPhoto: The Danieli, where Chris and I stayed 12 years ago on our first trip to ItalyPhoto: The Doge's Palace, from the vaporetto, taken from just east of therePhoto: I decided to take pictures of every lion I saw near St. Mark's.
