Back on this day (November 12) in 1881, Newton Heath won 3-0 away to West Gorton (St Marks) in the first meeting of the sides that would later become #mufc and +Manchester City FC

On that occasion 132 years ago, the famous rivalry was yet to form. The sides would not meet in the league until 1894, when Newton Heath claimed a 5-2 success.

Nowadays, we can look back on 166 meetings between the two clubs; United have 69 wins to City’s 47, while there have been 50 draws.

The Reds have had the upper hand in terms of silverware over the years and will be looking to secure local pride again this season by beating old rivals City to the #EPL title.
