Google Analytics has some amazing segmentation tools, like Advanced Segments and Custom reports. But those don't apply to real-time data.
But there is a way to segment real time data. Just click on various dimensions in the report and GA will segment the data based on that Dimension.
For example, click on referral information to segment by visitor source or traffic channel. Or click on a city name to segment by the visitor's city.
Here are a few different ways you might use this real-time segmentation:
* View the performance of a geo-located PPC campaign
* Measure which content is most popular in large metro areas
* Observe how social media is impacting site traffic from an industry conference
So next time you use real-time data, think about segmentation.
