Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr Beta 1:
- KDE Applications 4.12.2;
- the previous Additional Drivers application is being replaced by the all new Driver Manager. The manager allows you to - install and select the driver you want to use for software that has more than one supported driver, including proprietary drivers;
- plugins in Gwenview can now be installed on-demand from inside the application;
- new touchpad configuration tools which include many options to get your touchpad working just as you like;
- KDE Telepathy now has a meta contact support for grouping the same contact across different IM networks. The new release also includes more stability and polish than ever before;
- Improved Localization Configuration: numerous changes, improving reliability and localization coverage beyond KDE technology;
- the new Plasma Network Manager features a redisgned user interface, giving you more control while retaining its simplistic design;
- KDE Software Development Kit is available in the repositories (package name: "kde-developer-sdk");
- USB Creator has seen some nice bugfixes. Disks are selected when you expect them to, widgets can't be shrunk to be too small, list sizing is done smartly;
- KDE Connect 0.5 is available in the repositories: install KDE Connect on your desktop and your Android mobile phone to integrate the two. Text messages will appear on your screen, files can be shared, your music can be controlled from your phone and your music will be turned off when you receive a phone call;
- new automatic crash reporting;
- new System Notifications.

Xubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr Beta 1:
- Light Locker replaces xscreensaver for screen locking;
- new Light Locker Settings for controlling Light Locker and screensaver preferences;
- Mugshot (app for editing personal preferences ) is included by default;
- MenuLibre menu editor replaces Alacarte;
- Xubuntu now ships with community wallpapers;
- the panel now supports GTK3 indicators and uses Whiskermenu as the default menu along with a new single-panel layout;
- improved documentation which is also updated to match new applications and application versions;
- updated themes to work with the latest GTK3 version;
- many icon theme fixes;
- gmusicbrowser was updated to version 1.11.1, bringing a lot of bug fixes;
- Catfish was updated to version 1.0.0;
- Parole Media Player was ported to GTK3 and Gstreamer 1.0 with the latest 0.6 version available in Xubuntu 14.04 beta 1;
- Xfwm4 (4.11) brings a new accessibility feature: zoom into your desktop using Alt+Scrollwheel;
- Xfdesktop (4.11) bringing some cool new features, such as:
..... invidual wallpapers for each workspace;
..... a chronological option which will sort the available wallpaper pictures according to their filename and then goes through them in their sort order and spread them equally over one day;
..... an option to enable tooltips, which will appear when hovering over icons on the desktop with the mouse.
- gThumb image viewer and organizer is no longer included by default.

Lubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr Beta 1:
- new pcmanfm (1.2.0 version), with a lot of new features (folder settings, dual pane view, menu editing);
- new lxsession-default-apps with a new user interface;
- artwork update (new icons, theme update, more compatibilities ...).

- GNOME Classic session is included. To try it, choose it from the Sessions option on the login screen.
