All tests on Canon 5D Mark III.Photo: F2.8 can help separating subjects from distracting backgrounds, but there are limits if it's too close. I applied Lightroom's lens corrections to this one to cut back on the vignetting. I know vignetting is all the rage, but I grow weary. All tests on Canon 5D Mark III.Photo: Pretty heavy vignetting, but being able to go to F/2.8 helps in dim conditions a lot. 180mm, 1/50 sec, F/2.8, ISO 5000. All tests on Canon 5D Mark III.Photo: The classic brick-wall test, 200mm, 1/250 sec., F/8, ISO 500. Not bad vignetting, but pincushioning. It's very sharp across a wide patch of the center but softens toward the corners. zAll tests on Canon 5D Mark III.Photo: The classic brick-wall test, 70mm, 1/200 sec., F/8, ISO 500. Vignetting not a problem, but pincushioning. It's pretty sharp across a most of the frame. All tests on Canon 5D Mark III.Photo: Upper left corner of a brick wall. Softer but not unworkable corners at F/2.8; looks better if you apply some sharpening, but no miracle cure. All tests on Canon 5D Mark III.Photo: Upper left corner of a brick wall. All tests on Canon 5D Mark III.Photo: One of those handy occasions when heavy vignetting is desirable. ISO 100, 1/400 sec at F/2.8, 97mm. Even though vignetting is eaily fixed in editing, it's nice if it's not bad in the first place: fixing it adds noise in the corners, and it can be difficult to fix in video.
