Photo: With the influx of street photographer followers recently, I thought it would be appropriate to introduce everyone to my real love...rooftopping (see some of my other past rooftopping albums).

I got the chance to test the new Canon 8-15mm fisheye lens recently (thanks +Ronnie Yip). This is the circular fisheye image you will get at 8mm on a full frame full frame sensor. The lens actually begins to vingette at 14mm on a 5d mk ii, so the usage is rather limited on a full frame. On a crop body, there's a lot more flexibility. 15mm on a crop will show a bit of distortion, while it begins to vingette at 10mm. In my opinion, this lens is a winner on a crop, but limiting on a full frame (i.e. you may as well get the 15mm Fisheye at a fraction of the price).Photo: Like a Concrete Jungle: http://www.iambidong.com/2013/05/like-concrete-jungle.htmlPhoto: Sometimes it is not about the shots. It's about the chase. The adventure. This rooftop was the only successful one we had all day. Without a proper tripod, I bumped the ISO up to 6400 and shot at F/2.0 (I stopped it down from F/1.4). Good times were had and I at least got a "postable" photo too. All in a day's work.Photo: No time to explain how arty this shot is today! Just a generic rooftopping shot of my city. Not bad being generic sometimes. Rooftopping fun with +Ronnie Yip.Photo: "Almost everything–all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure–these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart."

RIP, Mr. Jobs. I will take your advice.Photo: In the city of the future, open access to rooftops will be mandatory. The rooftopping revolution will not be televised. Occupy rooftops.Photo: Tomms from Blursurfing (www.blursurfing.com) walks into the sun, never to return.Photo: One of the things I really loved about rooftopping in Southeast Asia, other than the fact that the views are categorically different from that in Toronto, is getting to witness the density of the cities. In my opinion, you can only appreciate this sort of thing from above.Photo: For those who didn't get a chance to see this shot I posted yesterday on 500px (http://500px.com/photo/2485462). I do believe this is one of my favorite shots, though many of you disagreed (which is totally ok).

A unique perspective from a construction crane looking down on the city. Not many people get to see it from this perspective, so here it is...Photo: He must very very trusting of his friends not to spook him or give him a shove from behind. It's a long way down, but a quick ride. So remember folks, safety first.
[www.iambidong.com]Photo: Toronto is made of gold, I am convinced. This image is straight out of the camera (with a small crop), taken with an 85mm lens. I loved the warm tones of the lights and didn't want to change a thing.Photo: The a city block in the Toronto Financial District reflects in the foreground building. Forget Occupy Bay Street -- Occupy ROOFTOPS. (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Occupy-Rooftops/186335964775001).Photo: Bird's eye view of the Occupy Toronto protest at St. James Park in downtown Toronto. I've been hearing a lot in mainstream media that the Occupy movement is dying (they keep on focusing on that one small splinter cell that have been showing up on Bay Street in rather small numbers), but my visit to St. James completely made me think otherwise. Though I don't agree with all of your messages, I stand in solidarity with your movement and celebrate the freedoms you all have to peaceful protest.Photo: I blame the ladder.Photo: Poppa has a new toy and his name is Canon 24mm TS-E Mk 1. Today's lesson is "The Tilt". This lens in tilt mode is used to change the plane of focus that blurs out portions of the image that is not necessarily based on depth of field. It is an interesting thing to test out, used more commonly for making miniature scenes. I bought this lens mainly for the shift functions, which I will touch upon later...Photo: In the skies where metal meets chrome...Photo: I decided to go into the archives looking for images of the Regal Constellation since it now appears that demolition is nearing completion. This hotel was built in 1962 and was renovated as recently as 2001 but suffered a huge loss during the SARS crisis and by 2004 it had been sold off. There were plans for additions to the hotel, but nothing ever got done, even during the long demolition phase. It appears now that virtually everything there is gone. This is one of my favorite rooftop signs ever. Bye bye Regal.

Here's more from the the Regal (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neilta/sets/72157624192347171/). Most images suck since I didn't know what the hell I was doing back then.Photo: All the clocks give in
And the traffic fades
And the insects like, like a neon choir
The instant fizz

And the curtains sigh
In time

You, the only sense the world has ever made
Early evening June
This room and radio play
This I need to save
I choose my final scene today
Switching off with youPhoto: This is perhaps the largest chimney Santa Claus may ever enter through...in Canada anyway. That 705 foot ladder to the left looks very tempting I must admit, especially considering how few people have ever reached its pinnacle. I don't think I am brave enough to be one of them. I guess even I have limits. Would you climb a ladder 70 floors high? Yeah, I didn't think so either.

Tags: #toronto, #torontoskyline, #skyscrapers, #rooftopping, #construction,Photo: Yesterday I posted an image from Toronto's skyline that made the buildings look a bit like concrete sprouts coming out of the land. Today, these sprouts are on foreign soil; courtesy of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), brought to you in Technicolor. Back in 1995, the tallest building in Vietnam was the Sun Wah Tower (middle of image) at just over 300 feet and 21 floors.

He joked about why I've been Photoshopping him into my images lately, in which I responded that one image I took of him got me a cover of a magazine...and subsequently him on the cover as well (see http://www.iambidong.com/2011/10/walking-into-sun.html). Story to be continued.

There's a lot in this program that I love, including something called "film effects". It allows you to choose from a list of popular film types and apply it to your digital image to replicate what it would look on film. For this shot, I used the Kodak Ektachrome 64. I dig it.

This view overlooking Dundas Square and parts of Ryerson University was new to me when I shot it. I attended Ryerson but never realized how massive "The Quad" was until I saw it from this vantage point. Pretty neat.

You know those shots you take and realize only when you get home that when at 100% it just isn't perfectly sharp? Well, this one qualified under that category. I took out the 135mm and shot at a pretty safe shutter speed, yet there is slight camera shake/blur. I suppose this one will be classified as "web only".

You may have noticed lately that I haven't been posting that many rooftopping photos; opting to hit the ground level in search of interesting life on the streets. In one of my previous blog posts, I claimed that rooftopping was Dead to Me. Shortly there after, I rescinded my prior statement and felt that it was Not Dead to Me. Now I'm just saying we're doing it for the love of it.
