It´s the 23th of April. Today is the World Book and Copyright Day.
Miguel de Cervantes, one of the most important authors in our history died that day.
The UNESCO introduced that day of books and reading in 1995. But here in Catalonia it brings a special "drama" with it...
Once there was a dragon. This dragon was a very hungry one, so he went from town to town to get enough food. Its favourite one were young, innocent and beautiful women. There came a time when there was only one left. The princess. For goodness sake there is always a knight in these kind of stories. In this case, Mister Jordi appeared with his white horse and fought against the dragon to protect the cute little princess. The bad dragon died and from the blood grew a rose.
Of this legend and the day of death of Cervantes, the catalans build up one of the most popular festival dates. The day of Sant Jordi.
It is celebrated as a day for books and for the lovers.
Usually women get a rose from their boyfriends, adorers, husbands....and men get a book from their sweethearts (if you´d ask me this rule should be broken more often :-)).
The little pigeon says that could be celebrated everywhere in the world.
Show your darling how much you like her/him. Everyday. And today.
I´m wishing you a very happy San Jordi! :-)
take care :-)
