It's not easy to write something about Joel. He's so many things that I have a really hard time choosing among them, without the fear that I'll leave too many out. And he's a very private person, so he might not even want others to write about him. But I'll take the chance. Actually I would have posted this portrait earlier, if I knew how to put in words what I want to say...
First and foremost, I want to say is that he is an astonishing guy who hides much more surprises than you could ever imagine (or I could ever imagine, for that matter). How do I know that? Well, aside from what I've seen, I just know! And since I'm very good at “reading” people, you should take my word for it :)
What I admire more than anything about him is the passion he puts in everything he does. The way he believes in what he does and the level of dedication to his art. Joel thinks big. And this is not a figure of speech, he really goes where not many would go and that with an easiness and straightforwardness that can only amaze and inspire. And like I said, you won't get bored with him. You may be left open-mouthed while listening to him, but never bored. Plus he has a very subtle sense of humor that's downright irresistible. The kind that sometimes you don't really know if you should laugh or if it's something serious, which is intriguing and charming at the same time.
Add to that who he is as a photographer and also his genuine kindness and his gentle manners towards everyone, without forgetting about the fact that he is as enthusiastic and innocent like a child, and you'll know why I was so happy to finally meet +Joel Tjintjelaar in Berlin.
Should I add that he's a perfect model, or is it obvious??? :D
