Photo: How much time do you spend in learning Photoshop?
#photographydiscussion , #landscapephotography

...vs how much time do you spend getting to know the location, light and your subject?

The photo on the left may be "Fixed" by spending hours in Photoshop (to make it look more appealing)...while the photo on the right can be created by simple observation with few minutes of setup. Here is a article that explains what we looked for in the field:

Even though both +Varina Patel and I are both experts at Photoshop we cant emphasize the importance of getting to know the interaction between location, light and subject you are photographing.

Enjoy & Share.

Photo: Will upgrading to new camera (or lens) improve your photography?
#photographydiscussion ,  #earlyphotos

Back in 2001-2002, I was absolutely convinced that all I needed was a DSLR, a good lens and a tripod to be able to take fantastic photographs. After spending about $3500 and a trip to Pacific Northwest I ended up taking images like this one. What is worse I shot the entire trip in JPEG because I did not see a value in  shooting in RAW (there were not good tools available). So for those who thing that all my photos come out looking good...THEY DONT!!!. And we all go through the learning curve.

Do you think I can do better than this now?

+Patrick Smith & +Ivan Makarov have been sharing old photographs as well. Feel free to check them out.

Update: Here is the photo from couple of years ago - https://plus.google.com/u/0/101145980349117737014/posts/DBtfJryDqak

Photo: Hang Out: Evolution of a Photographer @ 10:00 PM EST
#earlyphotos , #photography

Back in 2004, I was thrilled to have this photograph in my portfolio, but when I look back at all I see is an Opportunity Missed.

What would I do differently today? and Exactly how did my skills evolve over last 10 years?

I will be joining +Alex Koloskov, +Nicole S. Young, +Jeffrey Sullivan, +Jim Davis today at 10:00 PM EST in a LIVE HANGOUT to discuss some our early works and what paths each of us took to grow as a photographer.

Hope some you guys can join us. Enjoy & Share.
