- There's not much to say about Hawksmoor that hasn't been said before. The meat is amazing, so my companion said, but in typical style I had the chicken - and that was amazing too. But what I love most about it is the staff. My companion asked our very nice waiter to recommend a cocktail, which he did. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one that my companion wasn't that keen on (it was good, but not to her taste) – and when our waiter asked if she enjoyed and she replied that it wasn't really to her taste, he took it off the bill. Would I go again? At the drop of a hat. In fact, I might just run off and book it now.

- I've been to Bocca four times now, and it's never disappointed. The food is regional Italian and highly seasonal, so if you go more than once you might find the menu completely different – but no matter when you go, the food is cooked with great skill and the flavours are amazing. There's also a fantastic wine list. The staff are also amazing. If you're unsure of anything, from what a dish is to what wine goes with something, you can ask them and they'll give you a thoughtful and knowledgeable answer – without sounding patronising. And if you love food, it's worth sitting at the bar where you can watch the cooks work – it might be hot and a little cramped, but getting that kind of close-quarters look at people who love food, cooking with amazing skill, is worth it. Oh, and no matter what time of year it is, have ice cream. Really. Although having said that, if they're serving pear and zabaglione, get some of that too. In fact, just make sure you leave room for dessert, and have two.

Food Excellent Decor Excellent Service Very good - I've been going to Wahaca since it first opened, and love it to bits. It's relatively inexpensive (although beware of over-ordering!) and the food is always reliably tasty. One thing to watch out for: Get there early on a Friday evening, as after about 6pm the queues start to go a little crazy.

- In a part of London which excels in its selection of Indian food, Vijaya Krishna stands out as one of the best restaurants around. Don't be put of by the slightly dowdy, old-fashioned exterior: inside lurks some of the nicest Indian food you'll find. All the food is great, but the best dish for me is the dosas. They're a main meal in themselves.

- Koshari Street sells pretty much one dish and a few variants on it - Koshari, also called Kushari. This is an Egyptian dish of lentils, rice, pasta, chickpeas, a spicy tomato sauce, and onions that's suitable for Vegetarians and actually very tasty. Koshari Street itself is nice, with friendly staff who (when I went) were happy to give you a taster if you weren't sure what koshari is. Probably because a lot of people aren't sure what it is, it's also not been that busy when I've been there, something which in a very busy West End is a plus point in my book. One thing to note: Because it's made from rice, lentils, pasta and chick peas, koshari can be pretty filling - even a small pot makes a substantial lunch. If you fancy fast food that's out of the ordinary (and meat-free), I'd recommend it.
