- Tragic experience. We popped it on Sunday to buy a bike and they'd said it's in store and they can put it together by 16:00 the following day. This did not happen. We popped into the store at around 17:00, and it wasn't ready. We went on a walk around Lancaster, and when we came back, we still had to wait for it to be finished. The bike was 'ready' about two hours later than first expected, put together by someone else than the person we ordered it from. It's clear that there's no communication within the store as we'd asked for a basket and mudguards to be put on as well, but the person did not know this. She looked at her piece of paper and discovered that she was indeed meant to do that. By about 18:30 we could finally walk out of the store. We wanted to use the customer lift, but it contained an industrial trolley with biking accessories, so we had to ask someone to carry it down for us. We literally walked through the door and the basket partially fell off. I had to wait in queue to ask them to repair it. When I finally got to the start of the queue, the person behind the desk explained how they'd only worked there a few days and was busy with filling out documentation which they didn't really understand. Brilliant training, Halfords. They were really rather agitated. When the person who put together the bike returned, she agreed to come downstairs again and fix the bike. At this point we were really rather late, in relation to the time we were told on Sunday. She fixed the bike, while talking to two of her colleagues. So much for having a 'gazillion' bikes to put together. She finally fixed the basket, even though she went about it rather slowly. My mum managed to get on her bike and get home. However, the next day, the basket broke again. Any idiot could see that the mount was made out of thin, flimsy plastic, and simply snapped and the nut popped under, releasing the upper part of the mount and making the basket unstable. The person in Halfords must've known this, but didn't suggest to replace the product for a better one or anything. I will not return.
