Food Excellent Decor Very good Service Very good - First, the good: the food is excellent. Tried the chocolate cinnamon french toast with fresh berries & bananas, along with the house-made tart raspberry jam they keep at each table, and the combination was utterly delicious! Eggs, bacon, a potatoes were very good as well, but not mind-blowing. Service is great, and it's got a nice homey feel inside, with a nice display of foods as they're being prepared to help you pick (and make you hungry as you wait!) The bad: not much seating, so wait times are RIDICULOUS. Mama's is notorious for the line that runs up the block. We waited about an hour and 15 minutes to get in. Worth it? Not really. Well, maybe as a one-time thing, to say that I've tried the best breakfast in town. (It probably is the best in town). But you could eat something almost as good, and be seated pretty much immediately.

Food Excellent Decor Very good Service Excellent - I've been trying to sample all of the local burger joints to see which is the best, and so far, Umami Burger blows the rest of them away. Food quality is *excellent*. Their menu has much more creative burger options than most places -- for example, my burger had a combination of figs & bleu cheese (which was delicious). They also prepare their own sauces; even the ketchup tasted substantially better than I'm used to, since they make it on-site. We ordered food at the bar since seating is scarce (the major pitfall of all the good restaurants in this area), and the bartender did a far better job of waiting on us than most waiters do -- giving us a run-down of their menu and how the food's prepared since it was our first time, bringing out samples of their sauces to try, recommending the more unique burger options, etc. Highly recommended.

Food Very good Decor Excellent Service Very good - Cocktails and food were good, atmosphere was awesome. The entrance is on a sketchy alleyway, but you step inside to find a cool layout, live jazz, and an upscale feel. Great place to stop in for drinks, or to sit down and relax to the music while enjoying a nice meal.

Food Excellent Decor Very good Service Very good - Probably the best pizza place I've ever eaten, all considered. I've been here a few times, and each time I've quite literally been surprised at how good the pizza is. If you like thick crusts, their sicilian-style has just the right mixture of crispy and soft, and the slightly moist bread means it doesn't become a sponge like some sicilian pizzas do. I also tried a californian-style pizza on whole wheat crust, which was equally delicious. And for a more standard style of pizza, the "New Yorker" just melts in your mouth in a pool of meaty goodness. They also use a variety of ovens to suit the different pizzas & crust types: electric/gas, wood-fired, and coal-fired. The array of crust type, oven type, and topping options is broad, but without being overwhelming, and from what I've sampled so far, it's all equally delicious. I honestly can't think of anything that could be improved upon with the food here. The main drawback is that wait times here are RIDICULOUS -- if you go on an off day/time you might get lucky, but anywhere near peak hours, it's not uncommon to be told there's a 1.5 hour wait just to be seated. That said, I think they over-estimate a bit, since I've yet to actually have to wait quite that long (longest was around 50 minutes). But I have to say, it's well worth the wait.

Food Good Decor Very good Service Good - The downstairs bar was a bit loud and crowded on a Friday night, but the upstairs bar is more low-key, so we had a few drinks there while we waited for a table (they don't take reservations). Downstairs there's normal table seating, along with a long bar that faces an open kitchen, which gives the place a little more of a casual feel than it'd have otherwise. At dinner we tried a salad and a couple of standard entrees; the food was good overall, but nothing to write home about. Nothing really stood out above anything else: the fish was cooked well, but a little plain, and similarly the alfredo sauce was a bit on the bland side. But portions were good, and the meal was satisfying overall -- I wouldn't be opposed to coming back here again, although I'd probably try some other options in the area first.

Food Excellent Decor Excellent Service Excellent - Excellent up-scale restaurant for a special occasion. We tried several of the house cocktails, all of which were well-prepared and delicious. Appetizers had a wide variety of flavors to suit different tastes. We then moved on to quail for the first course: excellent. Main dish was filet mignon, accompanied by spinach ravioli, and a scrumptious sauce that gave me a mouth orgasm. We then tried a couple of tasty treats for dessert -- again, no disappointments -- and finished with a flight of dessert wines that perfectly wrapped up this phenomenal meal. All in all, a fantastic meal and excellent service, in a very classy setting. But then, at $250 - $300 for dinner for two, it better be!

Food Excellent Decor Very good Service Very good - Only tried a couple of dishes, but both were absolutely delicious! Portions are a bit small for things like pasta, but then the price isn't that steep either (you could always split 3 things between 2 people, for example). Good beers on tap, a cool atmosphere, and outdoor seating with overhead heaters for those cool nights. My only complaint is that this place is ALWAYS packed; prepare to wait a while unless you're going to sit at the bar, or you can find outdoor seating.

Food Good Decor Good Service Very good - Pretty standard Thai fare, with a sort of sleek, modern decor. i wasn't blown away or anything, but they have a good selection, solid food quality, and nice atmosphere. I was also pleased with the service. Will probably come back here again.

Food Good Decor Good Service Poor to fair - I wanted to like this place, but it seems to be packed out with cliché Marina types at most times of the day. On the bright side, they're one of the few places in this part of town where you can get decent food after 11PM. But the tradeoff is that it transforms into a sort of wanna-be club at night, making it impossible to enjoy a meal. Ok if that's what you're looking for, but there are other better clubs in the area, so to me it just seems like a poor compromise. Overall: mediocre food, sub-par service, lots of yuppies. Nice to have it there when I'm out on Union and want some late-night food, but otherwise I'm not tempted to go back.
