Landed!
The summer is coming soon, I expect the explosion of colors, scents, sounds, the wind that caresses the fields before the harvest, the feeling of warm sunshine on the skin, I look the extended time sensation of vacation days without duties.

Cerberus Cascade Molonglo Gorge, Queanbeyan

Crystal clear water plunges through this lengthy gorge. This weekend, cataloging the still pools and falls of the gorge.

Just in time

Chelila, Bhutan

I got up very early to get to the pass in time for the sunrise, so I could find a suitable location to set up gear and capture the rise of the sun.

During the drive up to Chelila I noticed how the time was fast approaching the sunrise, and the darkness was giving way to the twilight. Yet the road signs showed many kilometers still ahead to the pass. I was getting more and more anxious and wondered why the driver wasn’t keeping up – there was after all the only car on the road.

Just as I anxiously requested that we stop so that I could find a spot where I could glimpse the sun in between the characteristic trees, as I found them more interesting as a foreground than just a valley and a distant horizon, my guide informed me that the pass itself was a no go for landscape captures as a huge power line was going straight through there and is in the way of the sunrise. I was unaware of that, and thus we needed quite a bit less time than I’d thought. Still there was not much time to spare!

I quickly had to decide a place in between the trees and set up gear only seconds later see the very top of the sun’s disk over the horizon. Oh my what timing!

Experiencing this morning at this location was more incredible than I expected, and I was so grateful that this morning was not a cloudy one. It could have been a place inside the clouds!

If had had gone the morning after, I would have had a very cloudy morning and seen nothing of the sun.

Timing is everything!
