There's only one way out of here, said someone to the not so little rock.

The really cool thing about the internet is the way that information is at your fingertips, moreso the ability to find an answer based on only part of the puzzle. I think that probably makes us dumber in a way, yet smarter in another, not real sure on whether thats a good thing yet, history will tell.

I was watching the movie "The Thin Redline" the other night, apparently we (my work) had a bit to do with the Wirraway (thats a plane btw) in it, so when it came on TV (yup i'm old school still only watch whats on free to air :) ) i thought i would watch it - not too bad of film i suppose, but what tickled my interest was some audio samples, which i later went back to soundtrack to find, only to note they were not there, segway into the handiness of the internet, yep, the particular audio samples were from a fav artist of mine, Unkle. As such, i'll leave ya'all with quality quote from their work - i suggest a good session listening to Unkle is in order, particularly never never land, great stuff.

Does it help the grass to grow? The sun to shine?, Is this darkness in you too? Have you passed through this night?, This great evil. Where's it come from?

Onto the image, i love these kind of pictures, ones which look out of this world and even completely fabricated, yet not - this particular image is 3 images stitched together to make the pano format, each one taken with the waves in similar spots to make sure it does not look disjointed, with a shutter speed of 3 seconds its pretty forgiving to get things to align, the lone rock at low tide provided the anchor for all 3 images.
The morning sea fog which was crazy thick just topped it off. No elements added, removed or significantly altered, makes for a real easy image to process.

Zion by Night

A dark autumn night in Zion Canyon I wandered with my camera looking for images of the stars above and the arc of the Milky Way. Here I found a tree with bare branches and set up this shot. I used a brief bit of red LED light from my headlamp to add a touch of color to the tree.

"Lost in the Silent Woods"
- Facebook: www.facebook.com/stellaraustralis/
- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wvrbasso/

Surrounded in bare trees long since dead, a solitary light briefly pushes back the darkness. The wood of the trees are a grey-white seemingly taking on the colour of the salty earth of the dry lake that now devours the land. Above the bone-white trees the southern region of the Milkyway galaxy spans overhead in silent watchfullness. The Carina nebula glows a pinkish-red, the Southern Cross rises from behind the leafless branches, and the dark Coal Sack nebula is revealed amongst the brightness of the galactic arm.

I used an Skywatcher StarAdventurer sky tracking mount to take this 14 panel mosaic. A Canon EOS6d (modified) was used through a Canon 50mm f/1.2 lens stopped down to f/3.2. All camera and lens settings were kept the same for all panels, and all shots were taken one immediately after the other. The tracking mount was used for the sky and turned off for the foreground panels. Stitching in PTGui, colour balance, noise reduction, saturation and some brightness / contrast adjustment in Photoshop. Details below.

Details as follows:

| 2018-12-08 | Yenyening Lakes, Western Australia | EOS6D modified | Canon 50mm f1.2 lens | @f/3.2 | UV/IR cut-filter | ISO1600 | 25s | 14 x panels | Skywatcher StarAdventurer mount |

Enjoy,
Will Vrbasso.

Sunrise over New Zealand’s Roy’s Peak

Want some solid early morning exercise? Then try the hike up to Roys Peak on New Zealand’s southern island. It’s an absolute killer. Especially when you’re carrying kilos of photography equipment, haha! But it was absolutely worth it. Getting up there before sunrise, a mere 6 of us had it all to ourselves. Roys Peak, while it’s beautiful, it’s the surroundings that make the hike up, worth it…

For those of you whom want to make the hike up, it’s a super easy to follow path, with no difficulty (except for some steep calf leg muscle hammering sections).

Wulgulmerang Creek Falls mid-basin, Little River Gorge, near McKillops Bridge

Heavy rain in the highlands has finally started the remote falls in East Gippsland - here a tributary of the Snowy River north of Gelantipy. More Gippsland pics at: http://www.silenttheory.net/

I also want to record a vote of thanks to all those who have helped me out over the past month while photographing the falls of East Gippsland: those who have helped get me back from tricky places, those who quietly work to keep the remote trails, waterways and roads safe, and the many others who have stayed to chat and contribute yarns, secret falls and personal stories about growing up in this amazing place. Thanks!

"Opal Skies"
- Facebook: www.facebook.com/stellaraustralis/
- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wvrbasso/

The desolate landscape of Yenyening Lakes, Western Australia lies silent under brillant skies washed with the colours of opal. Looking towards the outer rim of the galaxy, one can behold the fantastic array of nebulas, supernova renmants, clusters, and satellite galaxies. And amongst it all, the faint ripples of air glow add green and orange to the red of the nebulas and the deep blues of the night sky.

Of course, most of these colours are not apparent to the naked eye. Only the integrating sensor of a camera and some skill at post-processing can bring out these subtle shades and hues. Despite this, when one walks along upon the dry salt lake and looks up to stare into the heavens, one cannot but feel a sense of peace, wonder, and something else that evades description.

I used an Skywatcher StarAdventurer sky tracking mount to take this massive 49 panel mosaic.
