Macadamia Ridge

Looking south, you can see Lennox Head in the background. Pretty nice spot except for all the tourists :)

This shot is just as the dawn broke over the horizon letting the warm sunshine glance off the ridges. Its 3 shots stitched together as a panorama image

Living with locals, Myanmar

Getting as far as we legally could north in Myanmar, to a place in the mountains I won't name (for safety reasons), it was forbidden to explore the area, and the military made sure of this. However, one early morning we snuck out of town and explore the neighbouring mountains, where after several hours of trekking we came across a little village situated right on top of a hilltop. The entire village came to a standstill when we wandered through, as if they hadn’t seen caucasians before (the vast majority would not have). It was a really cultural experience and they were just the most friendly and accommodating people. Among other things that day, we stared in the opening photograph of a local democratic building (Myanmar people are hugely oppressed). What an honour. Later that day we also were invited by a young girl that had been showing us around, to stay with her family that evening.

This photograph is of two children within that family we stayed with, warming up inside by the fire as night drew in. We were made a very big special dinner by “Grandma” that evening, just for her new guests (us). Filling our bellies up, we then slept on a couple of blankets next to this fire for the night.

The Tetons

A view of the Tetons in morning light on a clear day. Quite often on clear days I do not take photos between sunrise and sunset as the light is often boring. But when one is in Grand Teton National Park........You cannot help but want to make images. The peaks of the Teton Range are big, rocky and majestic.

Koorawatha Falls Dreaming Bang Bang Creek

This week, i traveled out west to an intermittent fall in Koorawatha Nature Park.

Koorawatha Falls Dreaming Bang Bang Creek

I detoured out west to check the falls along this outback creek.
On the hike I was adopted by a couple of young kids from a local farm. My youngest guide (5) warned me that, as it had been raining, we should be careful of the possibility of flash floods in these inland hills.
When we arrived, the falls were still asleep, so the kids insisted on showing me the old bushranger cave, the sinkholes and the overflow falls nearby. As we came to each new place, the kids argued about the best place for me to stand to take photos, and they gave critical feedback.
As we were exploring, they told me all the places they were going to visit and all the things they would do, when they grew up. I told them, that they lived in a wonderful place, and they smiled.
Then suddenly, the falls started to run. I followed the advice of my young guides and we scrambled back out of the canyon.
Sometimes, it is not the destination :)

South Australian Sunset

The Adelaide metropolitan coastline happens to sit on the east side of the St Vincent gulf. Which means we are lucky enough to get sunsets over the ocean all year round. I live a couple of minutes from the beach, so when I’m in the mood for some photography, I’m always keeping an eye on the clouds in the sky. Hallett Cove beach is a local for me, and happens to have an interesting coastline with many photogenic rock and cliff formations.

"Alone"

There is nothing quite like being alone in the empty dark landscape under a night filled with stars and the faint glow of the milkyway. The gentle breeze seems to accentuate the loneliness of the dry salt lake as it lies in silent reflection of the dark sea of space above.

Here on Lake Brown / Campion, Western Australia I sent forth my brother with a camera flash out onto the lake whilst I scrambled up a rocky ridge to gain altiude and distance. This way I could capture the expanse of the dry lake and better contrast its emptiness with that of the small, solitary figure that wanders in the middle.

I used an iOptron sky tracking mount to take this 3 x 7 panel mosaic. A Canon EOS6d (modified) was used through a Canon 85mm f/1.2 lens stopped down to f/3.2. All camera and lens settings were kept the same for all panels, and all shots were taken one immediately after the other. The iOptron tracking mount was used for the sky and turned off for the foreground panels. Stitching in PTGui, colour balance and background neutralisation in Pixinsight, noise reduction, saturation and some brightness / contrast adjustment in Photoshop. Details below.

Enjoy,
Will Vrbasso.
