Właśnie wracają i z nowym kawałkiem znów spróbują zawojować rynek.

Beehive Creek Falls, Coopracambra National Park

Beehive Creek rises in a remote part of Gippsland, which the First People of my part of the world, to the north, called Cabone Benel - the South Land. The name may come from the native bees that swarm along this creek - or perhaps because of the strange patterns made by the water at the top of the fall.

The creek is a pleasure to walk - below these falls it consists of scores of dancing cascades connecting pools of still water. I spent a little time climbing to the base of the fall (there is a rough path and, although part has collapsed, it is still manageable if you tread slowly). The path itself may be thousands of years old.

I found access to the top of the falls is a little more challenging. Not because of the steep sides of the ravine, but because as i came closer to the top, a sense of unease overcame me. I am a rational person, but i have learnt to listen closely to the bush (when i may be hours from a settlement or hospital). There are the obvious dangers that can be smelt or seen. Then there are those disclosed by other eyes - the bird in a high tree screaming out a warning of something below or a mob of roos startled in a particular direction. But then there are the dangers that cannot be seen or smelt or felt or inferred, save from shiver that runs down your spine. The First People at this place had myths above a stone being that detached itself from the rocks and would trap unwary travelers - a Nargun. The myth was not without evidence - in the stone canyons of the nearby Genoa River are fossilized footprints of an alarmingly large crocodile-like reptile.

A panorama of 2 shots, toned for depth. WB adjusted against my field notes. (I have also taken a series of chemical photos of this fall - and am interested in how the colors in those shots shape up).

Seldom Seen Creek Brumby, Snowy River Catchment

Taking its name from Mount Seldom Seen, this unexplored small creek is typical of the fractured Gippsland high country. This creek cascades and falls unevenly in the high country, with larger falls on the slopes of the Mountain and down the escarpment to the NE of Gelantipy.

Edit:

One of the nice things about G+ is the way a post can built - thank you to my friend +Charlie Be

+Charlie Be wrote: "Sounds like a sacred place - sacred water. Thank you"

This made me think of other conversations about this area and i responded: "Thanks mate. The spiritual world of the First People is populated with distinctly Australian mythical creatures that differ from place to place. Today modern rural dwellers tend to lump them all together under the label 'Bunyip' and use it to scare kids away from dangerous places.
The First People (the insular Kurnai) in this area divided the mythological world into three groups of beings.
The first are the evil Narguns - stone beings that can detach themselves from the sides of mountains or emerge from holes in the ground. They drag travelers to their deaths underground.
The second are the friendly Yabungs that live in trees and give friendly warning of things to come by the crack of a dry branch.
Finally, there are the Mraats, pale colored (like the palm of a first person's hand - the color of death), who were thought to be spirits of the dead.
When the Kurnai first saw pale colored Europeans (mainly Scottish colonialists) they took fright thinking that they were Mraats.

You may never see a Nargun, Yabung or Mraat, but when alone in the bush you can feel their presence."

The response may seem spur of the moment, but is in turn the sum of dozens of other comments and discussions here over the past week. Thank you all for your inspiration - and thank you +Charlie Be

"Longing for Orion"

Back in April I took some shots of Orion setting over Lake Clifton. There were a few shots I left to process later as other field trips came up, and soon I had forgotten these - lost in the depths of my hard drive.

I finally returned. This image was close to the end of my session at the lake. Orion is touching the horizon, and the atmosphere is starting to wash out the colours.

This image is a 3 x 3 panel mosaic through a 85mm lens using a modified Canon EOS6D. All camera and lens settings were kept the same for all panels. A tracking mount was used for the sky and turned off for the foreground panels. Stitching in PTGui, colour calibration in PixInsight, noise reduction, saturation and some brightness / contrast adjustment in Photoshop. Details below.

Enjoy, Will.

Whipping the tail

Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris)

Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand, India

The time to see the tiger moving is early in the morning or evening – when the air is cooler. Yet, actually seeing one is really hard as they are so well camouflaged.

This is one of two one year old cubs that were spotted as they shifted positions. The other one simply vanished into the thickets, but this one chose an open spot to relax – well not really relax as it was less interested in more relaxing and more on new adventures. It was after all evening and a sun much less powerful.

When they are deeply relaxing they are flat on the ground, but when they are about to shift into action mode their tail is like a whip – from horizontal to straight up in the air and back – real fast.

In fact this tail was the only thing visible through the grasses, and it was both quite fun but also a reminder of how incredibly hard it is to see the tiger in the wild.

After countless whippings of the tail and a couple of paces and changes in resting spots, it came out in the open as seen here, where it continued to flaunt its tail until it went ahead and vanished from view.

W innych przeglądarkach wszystko zostaje bez zmian.

Dragon Quest VR

Dragon Quest to, obok Finał Fantasy, jedna z najbardziej znanych i popularnych serii jRPG.
