say goodbye to the Gauntlet..

#alienabductionfriday is in full effect so just let it be.. the launch sequence is being meticulously prepared for that long ride home; we've been out here for eons.. met a couple of sonsofs whom we still cannot name ;) ran our beer tabs to the limit.. played poker for battle ready space ship pink slips and chased down some notorious AIG's

all in the name of science; and maybe some good ol' fashioned what the fuck why nots.. I stand here knowing full well; you can take the alien outta orbit but you can't take the stars from they eyes.. or some ish like that

+Alex Lapidus +Heiko Mahr +Janice LaMere Hackney and the one they call "Rubes" got my six so you better put your gear in reverse :) skrrt!

Wallagunda River Falls Second plunge and pool, Morton NP
Celebration: countdown 38

I remember this moment clearly. I scrambled down the slope to my viewpoint, but heavy fog blanketed the scene. I hesitated, starting to turn back, when a puff of wind opened the vista.
Through the highland mist, you can see the strange rock filters at the top of the second plunge - fragile honeycombed rock connecting pool and fall.

This is a single handheld shot through afternoon mist. I originally toned to emphasize structure rather than depth (the rock walls above the pool are difficult to image: the overhang and different lighting conditions/humidity make each shot different). I originally tried not to separate the colors by dehazing the drifting mist, preferring simply to let the eye wander the structures. This time i have dehazed a little, and reduced Magenta saturation and luminance (to compensate for the greens in the image.

A look back over the G+ Years

I haven't reshared the original post with this one, it needed reprocessing, and it's fascinating how differently you see a photo you've taken when you haven't looked at it for a while.

Gibraltar Creek Falls Namadgi, Australian Capital Territory
Celebration: countdown 39

A 50m (150’) fall into a deep gorge. This is the only accessible deep fall in the Namadgi wilderness. After exiting the gorge, an unusual 'horizontal' waterfall (resulting from massive flows) can be experienced here.

Image: A panorama of three fast shots taken in falling light lightly toned for depth (to separate spray threads). While the result appears coherent, there is inevitable distortion in the bottom part of a shot, where the angle of the camera from horizontal is about 30 degrees. To address the optical distortion (ie, that the fall is developing a fan-like shape) , i have vignetted the image to darken the lower sides of the image.

To my surprise, my G+ archive reports that my pictures received many hundred of millions of views (this week it hit 400 million). Lots of G+ artists and photographers would have had a far greater number of views - and your own posts were probably seen far more times than you might imagine. If anyone ever tells you that G+ didn't have any impact, tell them, it was an awesome place to be part of.

Tuross Falls Wadbilliga NP
Celebration: countdown 40

A large 200m (600') fall on the wild Tuross River, one of our most inaccessible falls.

150 years ago, a First People elder told a Sydney school teacher, Matthews, two stories about these falls and the river:

1. A giant once stole three girls swimming in a pool at the top of these falls. One of the girls called all the birds in the sky to help free them, and the birds came and threw the giant's head to the ground. The giant's head may still be seen at the foot of these falls. Look closely, and you will see the tears falling from his eye. (A shot of the giant's head is on my website.)

2. Dyillagamberra, the rain-maker, traveled up the Tuross River, digging holes and springs for the people. The waterholes are still here and in them, fish of all kinds. The waterholes of Tuross Falls are difficult to access - the cliffs are high and unforgiving - a good place for fish.

Image: This single shot was originally published toned for depth (and thereby loosing a little definition). Here i have combined two images, the base image is still toned for depth but the surface image (@ 66%) is now radically toned for structure.

Celebrate: Thank you. To celebrate what we all achieved on G+, i am publishing the 50 most viewed posts in this collection until shutdown. This is a reprocessed image of the Tuross Falls (40th most viewed - viewed 1,844,175 times).
