A great comprehension strategy for the primary grades!

Hello all,

I wanted some food for thought regarding new trends and practices for public school librarians. Many of us are actually becoming leaders and collaborators in a significant way with our colleagues. I just wondered if any of you think parents will due to the way of the world begin to enroll their children in online programs? If they do, where do you see librarians in this shift?

Our standardized test in Colorado requires our 3rd and 4th graders to use tabbed sheets to read and gather information from different sources before answering questions or writing a response. I have been asked by a few different teachers to help them set up a practice scenario that replicates this format. Is anyone out there using something to practice this or have any ideas about how to replicate this for practice purposes?

Hi all, I'm Chris, 20+ K-12 teacher, taking a year sabbatical to investigate what I think are some of the most important topics surrounding education. Later today I'm hosting a podcast session on Boal's participatory theater methods, all invited...

Awaking voice and choice, unpacking problems, zooming from individual metacognition (cops in the head), to soft and hard focused awareness of other, to awareness of community as "learning system", this Google Hangout today engages with author Toby Emert on the role of participatory theater in the 21st century classroom.

I believe this approach to awakening students to the complexities of conflict could be a critical component in the future of education. Come join!

Fun Reading Strategy- Cut a square out of the center of a fly swatter.  Have children look for a letter, letter pattern or word in a big book, pocket chart or on a white board.  When they find it they swat it.  Be creative!  Use different colors for different word patterns or types of words: verbs, nouns, or individual letters
