Lay Sermon: [Tithe of old covenant (Mosaic law) is made obsolete at the cross of Lord Jesus Christ] Found in the book of Leviticus of Mosaic Law “These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai for the Israelites.” (Leviticus 27:34) [Rom.10:4; Heb. 4:2; 12:18-29], tithing (old covenant) is exclusively for Israelites who followed God and it has been made obsolete (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 8:7-13). For the new covenant has dawned. The origin: Started in Israel, tithing was active within all its land, applicable to those whom He delivered them out of Egypt by the Red Sea (Exodus 13:18). “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s; it is holy to the Lord.” (Leviticus 27:30) In the manuscript: According to God’s Word, the tithes of their harvest and their incomes are made for their personal consumptions before God with rejoicing, for sharing with the poor and needy, Levites and foreigners who sojourned their land (Israel) and for community storehouses (not God’s temple(s), not churches). How tithing works: “You shall surely tithe all the yield of your seed produced by your field each year. And you shall eat before the Lord your God in the place in which He will cause His Name [and Presence] to dwell the tithe (tenth) of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstlings of your herd and your flock, that you may learn [reverently] to fear the Lord your God always. And if the distance is too long for you to carry your tithe, or the place where the Lord your God chooses to set His Name [and Presence] is too far away for you, when the Lord your God has blessed you, then you shall turn it into money, and bind up the money in your hand, and shall go to the place [of worship] which the Lord your God has chosen. And you may spend that money for whatever your appetite craves, for oxen, or sheep, or new wine or strong[er] drink, or whatever you desire; and you shall eat there before the Lord your God and you shall rejoice, you and your household. And you shall not forsake or neglect the Levite [God’s minister] in your towns, for he has been given no share or inheritance with you. At the end of every three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase the same year and lay it up within your towns. And the Levite [because he has no part or inheritance with you] and the stranger or temporary resident, and the fatherless and the widow who are in your towns shall come and eat and be satisfied, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.” (Deuteronomy 14:22-29) This only valid, active, comes alive under old covenant: “Will a man rob or defraud God? Yet you rob and defraud Me. But you say, In what way do we rob or defraud You? [You have withheld your] tithes and offerings. You are cursed with the curse, for you are robbing Me, even this whole nation [Lev.26:14-17]. Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. [Mal. 2:2]” (Malachi 3:8-10) What would happen if tithing exists in the new covenant?: With the old covenant made obsolete upon the cross of Jesus Christ and with God’s temple(s) and altar(s) built during Old Testament times been destroyed, through the new covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 8:7-13), God accepted us through our faith in Jesus Christ and through Jesus Christ, He sent us His Holy Spirit to live within us - the now God’s temple. “Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, you were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) With it, as stated in old covenant. 1. We would celebrate by feasting with our ten percent tithes (harvests, business profits and incomes) before our God, practiced third year tithing to the local community storehouses (not local churches) and share with the poor, orphans and widows who are unable to sustain themselves and foreigners who sojourned on our lands. 2. We would also maintain our physical bodies - the now God’s temple. “Do you not know that those men who are employed in the services of the temple get their food from the temple? And that those who tend the altar share with the altar [in the offerings brought]? [Deut. 18:1]” (1 Corinthians 9:13) Pattern of this world (Romans 12:2) on tithing: There are local churches still using obsoleted old covenant to collect tithes as “giving back to God”. They are creative and have twisted Truth in God’s Word by selectively picked biblical verses from Old and New Testament and devised them as God’s message of Today being alive and active and now speaking to us to pay tithes. This dishonours God Who decreed tithe of old covenant to end on the cross of Jesus Christ. “Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross. [God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross]. Therefore let no one sit in judgment on you in matters of food and drink, or with regard to a feast day or a New Moon or a Sabbath. Such [things] are only the shadow of things that are to come, and they have only a symbolic value. But the reality (the substance, the solid fact of what is foreshadowed, the body of it) belongs to Christ. Let no one defraud you by acting as an umpire and declaring you unworthy and disqualifying you for the prize, insisting on self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions [he claims] he has seen, vainly puffed up by his sensuous notions and inflated by his unspiritual thoughts and fleshly conceit, and not holding fast to the Head, from Whom the entire body, supplied and knit together by means of its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God. If then you have died with Christ to material ways of looking at things and have escaped from the world’s crude and elemental notions and teachings of externalism, why do you live as if you still belong to the world? [Why do you submit to rules and regulations?—such as] Do not handle [this], Do not taste [that], Do not even touch [them], referring to things all of which perish with being used. To do this is to follow human precepts and doctrines. [Isa. 29:13] Such [practices] have indeed the outward appearance [that popularly passes] for wisdom, in promoting self-imposed rigor of devotion and delight in self-humiliation and severity of discipline of the body, but they are of no value in checking the indulgence of the flesh (the lower nature). [Instead, they do not honor God but serve only to indulge the flesh.]” (Colossians 2:14-23) If we genuinely believe God’s Word to be infallible and true “For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) and that, there is no requirement in God’s Word about churches in New Testament and today on collecting tithes. Any additions to the Truth without the support of God’s Word will be reproved by God “add not to His words, lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.” (Proverbs 30:6) Concerning Christian workers of new covenant: Those serving in God’s Old Testament temple(s) and altar(s) get offerings - not tithes- and likewise, those of new covenant who preach the Gospel will get food and voluntarily offerings (i.e. any monetary amount given by cheerful giving (2 Corinthians 9:7), donations and sponsorships of basic essentials - material possessions), never by tithes for old covenant is made obsolete. “Do you not know that those men who are employed in the services of the temple get their food from the temple? And that those who tend the altar share with the altar [in the offerings brought]? [Deut. 18:1] [On the same principle] the Lord directed that those who publish the good news (the Gospel) should live (get their maintenance) by the Gospel.” (1 Corinthians 9:13-14)

Lay sermon: [Lord Jesus Christ’s Second Coming] “After that I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse [appeared]! The One Who was riding it is called Faithful (Trustworthy, Loyal, Incorruptible, Steady) and True, and He passes judgment and wages war in righteousness (holiness, justice, and uprightness). His eyes [blaze] like a flame of fire, and on His head are many kingly crowns (diadems); and He has a title (name) inscribed which He alone knows or can understand. He is dressed in a robe dyed by dipping in blood, and the title by which He is called is The Word of God. And the troops of heaven, clothed in fine linen, dazzling and clean, followed Him on white horses. From His mouth goes forth a sharp sword with which He can smite (afflict, strike) the nations; and He will shepherd and control them with a staff (scepter, rod) of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fierceness of the wrath and indignation of God the All-Ruler (the Almighty, the Omnipotent). And on His garment (robe) and on His thigh He has a name (title) inscribed, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” (Revelation 19:11-16)
