Greetings LASI-Local community. This is a heads-up that LASI 2017 in Michigan is shaping up for June 12-15, with full details to be announced soon.

However, as you know, LASI is far more than what happens in Michigan and who can get there! We hope you are now thinking about what you might run yourselves for your local community that week in June, or whenever suits best.

Please check the information at http://lasi.solaresearch.org/lasi-locals and see previous years for examples of the LASI-Locals that have convened around the world: https://solaresearch.org/events/lasi/

I am also delighted to say that Kirsty Kitto will take over from me as International Coordinator, so many thanks to her for taking this important role forward.

Regards,

Simon

Transforming Assessment webinar 9 September 2015: What can we do with assessment analytics?

Presenters: A/Prof. Cath Ellis (University of New South Wales, Australia) and Dr. Rachel Forsyth (Manchester Metropolitan University, UK)
Just because we have the data, does that mean that we can do anything useful with it? Is there value in collecting data about assessments, and can it be used to improve staff and student experiences of assessment or, assessment outcomes? The webinar will present some examples of using assessment data for quality enhancement and course development in higher education, and open up a discussion of the possible limitations and risks.
To register for this session at no cost please visit http://ta.vu/9sep2015

Dear LASI Community,

As we kick off LASI week, a very helpful note on video resources from the European LACE Project..

***********************************************

It is the week of the SoLAR Learning Analytics Summer Institutes (LASI) around the world and on behalf of the Learning Analytics Community Exchange (LACE) this is to update you on the resources that LACE is making available to support LASI Locals.

Short interviews with leaders in the field – A series of ten video interviews recorded at the LAK15 conference can be used to introduce learning analytics and to stimulate discussion about future directions and challenges https://www.youtube.com/user/LaceprojectEu
Research and practice in learning analytics – Also on our YouTube channel, a set of three talks on learning analytics. Professor Denise Whitelock talks about the learning analytics tool Open Essayist (17 mins), Dr Doug Clow talks about creating an action plan for learning analytics (37 mins), and Jenna Mittelmeier talks about her research into the roles that culture and personality play in an online learning experience (18 mins) https://www.youtube.com/user/LaceprojectEu
Learning analytics discussion – LACE team members and others will be talking live on Adobe Connect at 10am (BST) Friday 19 June, and the discussion will be available as a recording after that time. We will be using the  document attached to this email as a basis for discussion about the future development of learning analytics. Everyone is welcome to join us in the live discussion at https://connect.uninett.no/lace
We hope that you will be able to use these resources to support a LASI Local in your area, or to support future learning analytics events.

Regards
Rebecca Ferguson

Greetings global LASI Local network. This is just to confirm, following announcement at LAK15, that LASI-Locals week is 15-19 June this year. We encourage you to start planning an event that meets the needs of your context. Events already in planning in UK, US and China...

There is no physical 'big LASI' in the US as in previous years, but we anticipate that a set of repayable movies will be available for you to use as you see fit in your own events.

A full site will go up shortly but meantime refresh your memories from LASI-Locals2014 and 2013

[event] Please post links to your LASI-Local websites once they're up, and if you want, create an Event here. Use the [event] prefix so all gatherings can be found on a search https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/118076054403675847200/s/%5Bevent%5D

* News of plans being hatched are coming in regularly... so far we know of meetups in Boston USA, Amsterdam NL, Milton Keynes UK, and Hong Kong. *

Let's see if we can broaden the reach even wider than last year's map... :-)
