We have just finished our American colonies PBL! Thank you to all the classes that allowed us to present :)

Our driving question: How can we as teachers create a picture book to educate younger students about the American colonies.

Our hook: I read a book created and printed by a class of 5th graders from Florida about Harriet Tubman.

The kids were very motivated and engaged with this project! We all had fun with it!

3rd Grade AAP Social Studies Driving Question: How can we as museum curators, create an exhibit on ancient Egyptian Culture for museum visitors? As we studied ancient Egypt, we kept an ongoing list of what we wanted exhibits to be about. We narrowed it down to 8 topics we felt were most important to the ancient Egyptians: The Nile River, Hieroglyphics, Farming/Crops, Houses, Pyramids, Pharaohs, Great Sphinx of Giza, Contributions/Inventions. Each exhibit included model or poster and nonfiction writing. Parents were our museum visitors. Pictures of some final projects attached.

3rd Grade AAP Science Driving Question: How can we as authors/illustrators create stories that show the interdependence between animals and plants in their ecosystem? Hook: We listened to the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carl and discussed, is this what caterpillars really eat? No! So we studied animals and learned about what they really ate (food chains!) and the environments they lived in. Student groups read their stories to 2nd graders along with matching food chain and environment posters.
