I've been working on some new virtual reality tools for the Fusion compositing package.

The new "Publish Media to Google Cardboard VR View" script will be released with the next update to the Domemaster Fusion Macros. It allows you to share the selected 360° media nodes in 2D mono or stereoscopic Over/Under 3D format from your Fusion composite with a generated Google "VR View" HTML webpage.

The exported webpage can be viewed locally or shared via HTTP and WiFi using Apache/MAMP/LAMP/WAMP to a smartphone with a Google Cardboard HMD.

The publishing feature supports multiple theme templates and is highly customizable with HTML and CSS. The output is a flattened HTML/javascript/CSS based webpage that works across many web browsers.

Basic use of an Oculus Rift for dome pre-viz is surprisingly straightforward. I'll have to write a blog post about this after MAPS.
Just finished my presentation on "Planetarium Pre-Visualization with an Oculus Rift". I'll be showing how to use some virtual reality in a dome production pipeline at the Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society meeting in Waldorf, MD tomorrow.

Since I don't have a dome in our building, getting a feel for how our visualizations will look in a planetarium is an exercise in geometric distortion imagination. Using VR, I can sit at my desk and have a virtual dome surround me for such pre-visualization.

4K for the Fourth - Today we released a 4K Ultra High-Definition version of the "Celestial Fireworks" visualization. This viz was in celebration of Hubble's 25th anniversary in April 2015, and provides a sweeping and grand view of the nebula Gum 29 and star cluster Westerlund 2 at its core.

Hi! In using the Domemaster plugin I was having the infamous grey line issue but was able to get rid of it thanks to the Color Material Shader set up in the plugin. I am making a skydome with a PNG file of clouds and when I was using the regular maya shader the PNG would be see through. But now with the Domemaster shader I am unable to make the dome see through.I tried to link the color output to the transparency but it ends up being grayed out. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi all, I am using the Domemaster plugin and I am having an issue with the latlong camera. Seen in the attached image, I have placed a torus around the camera and applied a checker texture to it. When it renders there are strange tearing artifacts that I don't know how to get rid of. Any ideas?

Hubble in Ultra-High Definition - Today, we released a UHD version of the Bubble Nebula visualization for you to enjoy in 3840 x 2160 resolution goodness. You can watch on YouTube or download the movie file and/or UHD frames from HubbleSite http://hubblesite.org/video/812

To answer the obvious question from this group, no, this is not really amenable to a dome version. You are welcome to warp it across a dome as you see fit, but the underlying Maya model is built for a traditional camera field of view.

i need to decide which projector to buy for my spherical mirror System ,
7m Dome
60cm Mirror
my question is about ( Sony VPL-DX127 - 2,600 Lumens XGA Desktop Projector ) is this a suitable projector for the setup ???
