A school has been using Engrade for all their Assessment related work. Now that Engrade has been acquired by McGraw Hill - it's a Paid service.
The school is looking for an assessment application / tool similar to Engrade , but Free.
Please do recommend . School is based in Mumbai, Affiliated to IGCSE board.
Thanks in advance

This is a survey of interest from Google in having an annual license option vs a life-of-the-device option.

Currently Chromebook management licenses are for the life of the device, however in a 1:1 situation that life is very much shortened. I raised the concern that this is costing our school quite a bit of money since we have a 2 year replacement cycle, and they listened.

Ideas for Google Innovator project

I'm having problems generating ideas for my Google Innovator application. I am not a teacher (although I have taught in the past) but a tech trainer at a university. The training aspect is not part of my job description so the number of hours I have available to commit is limited.

Can anyone suggest some ideas to help me get my own juices flowing?

In advance, thanks!

Hey Trevor. With the new application, the question is, how would you transform education? It's much broader now, compared to just classroom instruction. The question to ask yourself is, what edu problem exists that you would love to spend an entire year on trying to solve? Or another way to say it is, what if your university gave you 20% time to help solve a major edu problem, and the only stipulations were that you had to use your network to help, and you had to freely share your big idea with others to replicate? I think you got this, bro!

New Document Outline Tool?

When did we get this? I noticed it in one of my #GoogleDocs  this morning. Tools > Document Outline

Using headings in the doc will automatically pull it in to the Outline pane on the left. Clicking an item in the Outline jumps your cursor to the beginning of that line.

Is anyone else experiencing issues with adding a doc to a folder from within the document itself - the star also seems to be unresponsive.

Ideas?

Review your past Q&As from Google Slides

The Q&A from Google Slide's audience tools is an exciting new feature that I've been playing with since it came out. Yesterday I was presenting a session and was showing Research under the tools menu and spotted Q&A History! Sure enough, that's what I found.

Hey Googlers!
My district has been looking at online lesson plan books. Some of us love using shared folders for collaborative lesson planning, but others like the ease of inserting the standards using packaged versions such as  planbook.com.  Is there something out there,  an add-on or extension that would allow teachers to easily choose from and insert standards in a sheet or doc? The simpler the better.  Thanks so much, Liz

Whether you’ve supported Code.org as a teacher, parent, or volunteer, or you’ve just tried one Hour of Code, today you’re part of a historic moment for education in America.

An unprecedented group of over 90 of America’s greatest leaders have joined in a bipartisan message: to ask Congress to support computer science in our schools.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a list like this unite on any issue. It’s especially refreshing in today’s age of divided politics.

Why? Because this is the most bipartisan idea in America. Computer science has become fundamental for every field of study, for individual opportunity, and for national growth. It’s time our schools offered students a chance to learn it.

Polls show 90% of Americans agree on this, but nothing will happen unless our voices are heard. Your representatives must hear from you.

I’ve dedicated my life to this issue, and I’m asking for your help.

Please, see the amazing list of leaders and what they have to say, and add your name too.

Together we can change the world, for all our children.

Thank you,
Hadi Partovi
Founder, Code.org
America should be a leader in computer science education, yet today most schools don't even offer this foundational subject. Please join the CEOs, governors, and education leaders below and ask Congress to support computer science in every K-12 school – for our children, and for their future . Every...

Anyone have any suggestions for this? I'm working on opening Hangouts for the students so that I can screenshare with the support folks, but in the meantime...

I had what I thought was a good idea- a teacher wanted her students to collaborate on a Classroom assignment and she wanted it accessible for the Classroom, without students having to take several clicks through their drive to find the shared doc. So, the student went to the assignment, chose "add", created a doc, shared the doc with their teammates, but when the teammates try to access it, it's appearing as a ".gdoc" and not opening. see screenshots below. Even in their drives, it shows up as a .gdoc and they can't open them. Any ideas?

I am working towards creating a community of practice in my school district using G+. I have organized a series of PD face to face workshops that will be filmed and my hope was to put those on a private, school G+ to be discussed. I have been asked if it is possible to prove that the teacher in fact did watch the recording. Is this possible? Does anyone have experience with credentialing PD using G+?

You could use something like edpuzzle. You have the option to add notes and questions but it sounds like you just want people to view the image.

Then when you have made the 'assignment' you can share it by embedding it on a site and instruct people to click "Login with Google". That way people are automatically joined with your 'class' and you can track how much of the video they have watched.

I have been messing around with both Autocrat and Form Publisher... they seem to be very similar... like almost the same thing (at least when using Autocrat in combination with Forms)... Am I missing something?

Can someone explain to me the benefits of using one over the other?

Thanks!

I am thinking about trialing Standards Based Grading... but my current gradebook system doesn't provide that as an option...

I have begun setting up a Google Sheet to work as a Gradebook... but I am starting to feel like I am re-inventing the wheel, and someone probably created a better version...

Has anyone ever used Google Sheets to set up a Standards Based Gradebook?

Do any of you use an app on Android phones to take pictures, and add quotes to them (like on Pinterest?) I know of Font Candy but that only works with iPhones. Really need it urgently (will blog and share results)

Question: Google DRIVE blocked by Parental Controls in Mac 10.11

MacBookAir, brand new as of January 2016, running El Capitan, 10.11.1

I have activated Parental Controls, but it's blocking Google DRIVE.
I can access: Google Gmail, Calendar, Finance, Sites, Groups, etc.

I have customized WEB access and have typed in several Google Drive paths (based on reading what others have said).
No matter what I try, I still get, "not authorized" message.

I have ALLOWED:

https://drive.google.com/drive/?tab=wo#
https://drive.google.com
http://drive.google.com
https://1e100.net
https://appsengine.google.com

I do have YouTube blocked.

Nothing is working.
Any advice would be welcome.
