Query a): What do you need the random number for? There are any number of ways to generate something. Perhaps look at one of the random functions and use CopyDown to automatically create it upon submission.

Query b) - why not just share a folder and let them add things themselves? Or you could use Google Classroom to collect the documents (this would probably be easiest).

We are in the process of figuring out some new filtering rules. What and who are districts blocking? For instance youtube open for teachers what about students? At what grade level do you block if any? Some concerns are being voiced about the school's liability if a student sees something inappropriate on a school network. I would love some feedback that I can share with my district to help inform our decisions.

Apologies for cross posting: Googlers: Can you gather data from a form and have it automagically flow into an established tab in a spreadsheet workbook?

Without knowing exactly what you're trying to accomplish, I believe your solution will be IMPORTRANGE function. Keep in mind, this will be read-only - if you need to edit, you'll have to do it in the original sheet.

Has anyone taken the Google certification exams? Any advice for a newbie other than reading the materials online

So with the new branding, are we going to re-title this group, or will there be another group made?

Need a solution. This is my husband 10,000 softball swing club he is trying to do this summer. We've got a simple form and all players in a pull down choice... I need a way to combine all entries by a single player into graphs.  So I could show one graph and it would show everyones TOTAL swings.  Right now it will only graph with each time they log swings as a unique person... Ideas?

On another spreadsheet, make your list of players in one column and in the next column, you need to use the SUMIF formula. You want to SUMIF based on the names...search it out for help. Then make your graph off that data table.

My 6th grade class has been studying ancient civilizations all year. Five groups will each take a turn presenting their choice for "best ancient civilization".  Please watch their presentations and cast your vote.

Question.. students share documents with me regularly, but sometimes I am getting some where I only have 'suggestion' rights instead of editing. I actually really like this, but have not been able to replicate it. Any one know how to share a document and allow the editor to only be able to suggest?

I just noticed a few minor, but important changes to the Summary in Google Sheets. The choices are now labeled, making it easier to see what the choices were and the intervals now make more sense - 50, 75, 100 instead of 33, 44, 55

The Google Hangouts Chrome Extension provides an effective way to start and receive invitations to Google Hangouts. With it, you can easily start a text based hangout, switch to audio/video, as well as create and save group conversations.

For organizations that are not using Gmail, this is a great way to still be able to take advantage of Hangouts.

Create User Accounts Using Google Forms
Great for workshops

As an administrator of your training domain, you can quickly add several users at once by uploading the data as a CSV file (https://goo.gl/Iv4MQ6). To reduce my efforts, I decided to use a Google Form to collect information which would be used to create unique account names. My form (https://goo.gl/VdTM30) collects First Name, Last Name, Last 4 digits of their phone number. Using some Google-Voodo I create a formula that will generate an account email address:

john.doe2468@gtrainerdemo.trevorbeck.ca

In another tab, I use the query function to present just the info Google needs to create the account. Open up that tab, download the data as CSV and you're ready to upload to you admin dashboard. All in all, you could easily collect, upload and create accounts in under 5 minutes.

You can see a sample of the formulas I use in the spreadsheet used by the form above here:

Here's a quick video of the process

I am sharing this opportunity with my great network and hoping to see some of you apply.

The Glenbrooks have two tremendous positions now accepting applications: Director of Educational Technology (DET) and Director of Technical Services (DTS)

Both of these positions are under our Curriculum and Instruction Department supervised by the Assistant Supt of Educational Services.

The DTS is focused on infrastructure, network, and technical support. The DET is focused on learning and teaching, systems, and professional development/training.

This model allows for each director to have a clear focus under a common vision.

The Glenbrooks is an amazing district with some of the best students, teachers, and staff. Join a progressive organization and tremendous team. We are 1:1 Chromebooks and a robust Google Apps district since 2008. With a three year learning vision just established, this is a perfect time to join us.

Plus, you'll work with me directly as I transition to Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction :-)

Google Apps for Education Webinar - Wednesday 27th May 2015 - 7pm AESTHow do we identify #nextpractice in the use of technology in learning? Can we take the SAMR model to look at both best practice and #nextpractice using Google Apps for Education? Well, we think so! This webinar will provide some wonderful examples of educators who are working on a daily basis in best practice and innovating next practice. By the end of the webinar you will have seen numerous examples of using GAFE to augment, modify and redefine ...

Any GCT's with insight about this issue...
For now I am back to juggling two browsers..Firefox and chrome

Any thoughts on the implications and what is being effected?Just ran into this when i was trying to use Wordle..

NPAPI support by Chrome
The Java plug-in for web browsers relies on the cross platform plugin architecture NPAPI, which has long been, and currently is, supported by all major web browsers. Google announced in September 2013 plans to remove NPAPI support from Chrome by "the end of 2014", thus effectively dropping support for Silverlight, Java, Facebook Video and other similar NPAPI based plugins. Recently, Google has revised their plans and now state that they plan to completely remove NPAPI by late 2015. As it is unclear if these dates will be further extended or not, we strongly recommend Java users consider alternatives to Chrome as soon as possible. Instead, we recommend Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari as longer-term options. As of April 2015, starting with Chrome Version 42, Google has added an additional step to configuring NPAPI based plugins like Java to run — see the section Enabling NPAPI in Chrome Version 42 and later below."

Amen, Firefox is my new home browser, though it's hard to say goodbye to Chrome. Google has certainly taught me to be a "mobile" learner when it comes to web apps due to their constant changes. Basically, stick with what works, whether that's Chrome last month and Firefox this month.

I am looking for pros and cons of Google Mail and Calendar for schools. Does anyone have a list they used to "convince" their admin that this was the right move. We are currently using Zimbra which is exchange based. Thanks for your help.
