Like trash

I read this blog and thought I would pass it on to the group.

It feels like this, waiting for the hammer to drop, waiting for people to move on. Some say it’s negativity, I say I’m just not an idiot. A lifetime of WTF does tend to prepare you for what happens when those you thought were closest to you, decided that they want to graduate from having to deal with what you constantly live with.     The post Like trash appeared first on No Working Title .

I am not long for this world

I am not long for this world So I choose to live and leave it Full of peace, hope, joy and grace “I am not long for this world” – Its not a pessimistic statement, just a factual statement. How long do any of us have? We simply just don’t know. If you spend all your time dwelling on the past. Past issues, past failures, past trails, past successes, you never are fully present. if I am not fully present NOW then I have come to realize that I missing the greatest opportunity I have available to me…namely today. What was done to me has never defined me, it has refined me. I will not leave this world filled with memories of pain, but of peace, not filled with old years of sadness but new years of joy. I don’t have tomorrow, but I do have today -TA The post I am not long for this world appeared first on No Working Title .

The Fight Sept 26

I read this post and thought I would pass it on to the group.

--------
The Fight is a collection of articles from around the globe speaking to the issue of pornography and sexual abuse against boys, and the effects on their lives as they grow into men. The Fight is a collection of articles from around the globe on the issue of pornography and sexual abuse against boys, and the effects on their lives as they grow into men. Malawi: More Boys Experiencing Abuse Than Girls – Unicef A study conducted by UNICEF has established that more boys in Malawi experience abuse than girls, Malawi24 has learnt. The study which was conducted in 2013 aimed to establish the prevalence of violence against children nationwide expose acute prevalence of violence against children with more than half of the country’s children population experience violence and abuse including sexual exploitation. A total of 2163 children (1029 girls and 1133 boys) aged between 13 and 24 participated as a representative of the country’s population of children and young people. The study found that more than 70% of boys and 55% of the girls in Malawi experience some form of violence while growing up. The findings furthermore show that nearly 67% among boys and 40% among girls are subjected to physical abuse with more than two thirds of the population experience abuse before they turn 18 years old. Authorities arrest woman wanted in sexual assault of teens A woman wanted by authorities since July has been located and brought back to Cabell County to face charges related to the sexual assault of two teenage boys The unfortunate unspoken taboo: crimes against men… As I said before, I was prompted into deeply thinking about this by one of my very angry friends… But rightly so… He said that there is absolutely no protection for men anywhere in the world, especially against women. At first, I was appalled; being a woman, naturally the first thing in my mind was how much women suffer, all across the globe- rape, domestic violence, forced free labor, prostitution, abduction, suicide etc. The next thing he said, threw enlightenment at me like a brick on my face. He said that men too suffer from every single one of these crimes, and its just that they don’t get the due importance. I realized how painfully true it was. How the law punishes boys who are raped When a state government finds out a 14-year-old girl is a statutory rape victim of a 20-year-old man, the common reaction would be to file criminal charges to put the predator in jail. But for male victims, child support laws turn state governments into the allies of abusers instead of advocates for the victims. Why the double standard when the victim is male? Something that we need to think of is all of life is seasonal. Whenever the walls close in and the nights seem too dark and lonely, there is always tomorrow, springtime is coming.

Men are subjected to a culture in which the standards of masculinity are literally making them sick.Mental Health problems are widespread throughout the North America, impacting tens of millions of people each year. But yet only half of those affected receive treatment. It is vital that we consider gender differences in not just the experience of mental illness but also in the ability to get help and participate in treatment whenever necessary.

5 Simple keys to Managing Stress.

The effects/side effects/after effects of sexual abuse are numerous, we know that, even if we have never experienced abuse of this nature or studied it out, we can at least give mental assent to or acknowledge that it would have a profound impact. Carol Boulaware summaries the Major Long-Term Psychological Symptoms of Sexual Abuse as:

Anxiety
Panic Attacks
Low self-esteem
Stress disorders - PTSD
Personality disorders
Substance abuse
Self-abuse behaviors

Not trying to be over simplistic, but we can summaries that in one word. STRESS.

I once heard Dr John King define stress as:

Supposed
Threats to
Relationship
Enjoyment
Security
Stability

I recently read an article by the American Psychological Association, that I found very helpful, primarily because of its simplicity, it was entitled: Five Tips to Help Manage Stress

The article starts by stating:

Stress occurs when you perceive that demands placed on you — such as work, school or relationships — exceed your ability to cope. Some stress can be beneficial at times, producing a boost that provides the drive and energy to help people get through situations like exams or work deadlines. However, an extreme amount of stress can have health consequences, affecting the immune, cardiovascular and neuroendocrine and central nervous systems, and take a severe emotional toll.

It goes on and gives what the APA calls'healthy techniques'to help reduce stress in the short and long term:

TAKE a break from the stressor. It may seem difficult to get away from a big work project, a crying baby or a growing credit card bill.
EXERCISE. The research keeps growing — exercise benefits your mind just along with your body. We keep hearing about the long-term benefits of a regular exercise routine.
SMILE AND LAUGH.Our brains are interconnected with our emotions and facial expressions. When people are stressed, they often hold a lot of the stress in their face. So laughs or smiles can help relieve some of that tension and improve the situation.
GET SOCIAL SUPPORT. Call a friend, send an email. When you share your concerns or feelings with another person, it does help relieve stress.
MEDITATE. Meditation and mindful prayer help the mind and body to relax and focus. Mindfulness can help people see new perspectives, develop self-compassion and forgiveness. When practicing a form of mindfulness, people can release emotions that may have been causing the body physical stress. Much like exercise, research has shown that even meditating briefly can reap immediate benefits.
I encourage you to read the full article on the website.
