I hope this gets more people to try Google’s speech recognition.

You saw it here first - Google Docs is getting Voice typing.

I just got Palaver to work on my Ubuntu 13.10 32bit laptop and I'm curious, what commands can be used on palaver?

Well, as long as its clean and well documented, add an ability to extend[aka plugins] then its all good. I'll do my best update documentation on the wiki but it has to ne done in code comments first. I'd really like to help but its going to take some time for me to learn more coding.

I have posted 5 new plugins, one for opening LibreOffice, one for Skype, one for showing the Weather, one for adding events to google calendar, and one for controlling the sound volume. They are on github.com (goo.gl/bsrce9, or search for timtjtim) and on the Palaver Plugins page (goo.gl/yoVXI9). I am user 878.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it does that. You can download it off github (github.com/timtjtim/palaver-libre) and I think that that works. Or click on the cat icon next to the link.

Greetings all!  First, I want to thank the author of this code!  Linux is seriously missing this feature!  Second, I want to be clear that any future 'complaints' are based-solely on my desire to see a working speech function for Linux.  I wish I knew more programming to help out (I can barely do adequate loops in Python :/ ) so next best thing is to offer up my system as a guinea pig and dig/learn what I can for this project.

My first serious suggestion is some good documentation!  Seriously, this is the bane of all software that simply isn't obvious/easy to use.  While the install instructions worked just fine for me, I was fustrated that outside of the computer echoing back a text bubble(and sometimes a proper response when it recognized my sentence) but outside of that, it was useless.

When I saw a video that I can tell it system commands (no where in the buried documentation did I see that) I was happy that someone in the forum finally mentioned where such a config file was located.  Now that I know it's there, I tried some of the commands but the program does not respond.

Also, today, the text 'listening' bubble has suddenly stopped showing up.

So, where to begin fixing these?

- no text bubble("Listening")
- no 'system command' response. (i.e. "what's my IP?")

The 'no text bubbles' can be resolved by 'Restart Servers' option when I rt-click on the icon in the system tray area.  This is a bit of a work-around.  Will add to bug report.

About this community

In the community, I will post updates about palaver. You should join to get those updates, and also if you would like to make suggestions or ask questions about how to use the application.

Look in the folders.  There is a bunch of scattered documentation I saw.  If/when I get time, I'll try to update the wiki more.  Or, you could update the wiki once you found your answer ;)

Don't know him at all, outside of the few exchanges we've had.  I suspect just a difference of opinion.  Most likely on when it should be updated with a lean towards how it should be done.  So far, I can't get LiSpeak to work on my system.  Odd thing, can't get a hotkey to be assigned.  I've assigned it but there is no response when I use it.  Hopefully it'll get sorted out soon.

I would like to play with the voice sound and found this:  https://github.com/muflone/gespeaker  Since Palaver uses espeak, this might be interesting.

Is there an easy way to change the voice which Palaver uses?

I just updated the Wiki so that there is a more central location to find help/files.  Much better than having help docs in every folder for first time users.

On January 1st, I am going to be discontinuing the Palaver Repository hosted at http://palaver.bmandesigns.com

This project started off good but development is moving too slow, I am dedicating my resources to other projects

Until then all plugins can be downloaded from the website and Palaver will function as normal.
