The general public is mesmerized by translation technology. Not a week goes by without major articles about the latest presumed breakthrough in machine translation or automatic interpretation. We need to get ahead of that conversation and steer it to our own advantage. One way of doing that is to actually become part of the many development projects that are happening around the world.
Jost Zetzsche, a well-known localization technologist, shared some ideas on how to do this at UTICamp-2016.

Translation of web content is always a challenge as it is sometimes hard to understand the context. Good to know that there’s a great solution for addressing this problem.

At UTIC-2014 Serge Gladkoff, President of Logrus International Corporation, talked about the ITS (Internationalization Tag Set) 2.0 specification introduced by the W3C and “Work in Context System (WICS)” project, which aims to help existing technologies deliver context-related information to linguists. They enable translators and reviewers to refer to the localization context, presented visually in a web browser window, while working on the content in their content editor, CAT or other content management tool.
