May is here! Time for Spring, and flowers, and other life-affirming things!

This month's optional 250xp achievement theme word is: RAISON D'ÊTRE or Reason to Exist.

Warning, this month's keynote is a little deep.

And March's game is complete - Presenting the Bee Game!

OK, perhaps that's a bit grandiose, but the game is about bees.

Well, I got a game finished this month. Still have lots of room left for improvement, but it is a complete, playable product.

Well we're almost 1/2 way through the month. I hope everyone's games are coming along well. And if you haven't started yet, you're not to late! Trim down the scope, make something simple. It's never to late to start.

I'm probably going to split the Clown project across two months. This month I'll make a generic fantasy battle game to test out the battle system, and focus on reworking/reskinning it for clowns next month. Really want to get this right.

WORK IN PROGRESS  -

So in keeping with my resolution to make 12 games this month, here's the first month's idea.

Working Title: Clash of Clowns.

This one actually game from a mis-hearing of what one of my sons said. They were, of course, talking about Clash of Clans, and it sounded like one of them said 'Clash of Clowns'. Commence teasing and laughing, but it struck me that it sounded like a rather interesting idea. Groups of circus clowns clashing in the big ring to try and be the funniest group.

Currently I'm thinking a more tactical game, teams of 9 vs 9 with the teams in a 3x3 grid. Going to rip off*COUGHS*er I mean be inspired by the combat system in Atlantica Online.

Just as a heads up I'm cleaning up spam posts/spam accounts. Only remove bang accounts right now (the ones that start with ! ) so that should be safe, but there's a ton of posts G+ has flagged as spam that I need to go through. If I remove one of your posts and you think it was one that belongs here, feel free to repost it with a little note letting me know why.

Welcome to 2016!

So, the new year is upon us. Time for all those New Year resolutions. I've got three of em. One of them, of course, is to make this the year that I actually do one game a month. I've gotten close in past years, but it seems like things always come up that derail things. I've got some ideas on how to deal with the more common issues, so hopefully I'll see this year through. The other really major item I've got is completing the NaNoWriMo challenge this year. Now that will take some serious planning to pull off.

Of course this is also the start of a new month, which means we have a new optional theme, Hobby, and a new keynote which I shall link in at the end of this post. Go watch it, it's good stuff.

Is there a way to participate without Twitter? Because I hate Twitter, I never used Twitter and never will.

Not a fan.

Thank you so much, this is great to know. But seriously, I avoid Twitter like the plague (I know, how rare, right?).

And here's my game for May. It's a game I've been working on for quite some time, but I'm finally pushing it out the door this month.

So, one thing I've noticed is that we have a lot of finished game posts that seem to be more about advertising a finished commercial product rather that a One Game project. I'd really like to keep this community on a narrow focus, with all our posts about/related to One Game a Month. Of course that means some of the projects will be commercial.

So...how about we just include our One Game profile in any finished game posts we make? That gives me an easy way of moderating posts (no link, get post removed) and shouldn't place much of an imposition on posters.

Thoughts?

Just a reminder that I'm serious about this. Just removed three posts from the moderation queue because they looked like advertisements and they didn't have a profile link. If any of those were serious One Game a Month projects, please feel free to resubmit with a profile link.

OK, I did two games in December, but really only one of them is any good :P

Done in two hours as part of a challenge (AKA final exam) that I have my beginning game students complete. I randomly selected "Strength in Numbers" from the Ludum Dare theme list. My game is Archers vs Dragons, where you create a bunch of archers to try and kill a massive, rampaging dragon. Not the deepest game out there, but what do you expect in two hours ;)
