what is the difference between KaOS Plasma and KaOS Plasma Wayland ? Which one should i download ?

Xmetal: Cant hurt TRYING the Wayland ISO but if your new perhaps ... the regular ISO is good too .... Wayland may not be 100% bug free with all apps for example ... in Fedora (sorry to keep bringing up other distros) ... Plank worked perfectly with X Server but when I was on Wayland it wouldn't start the Plank Dock. (For the record ... for EVERY DISTRO ... the plank devs COULD HAVE fixed that by now ...) .... I just wanted to give an example that actually happened to me .

i have been using linux distros for past many years and have used many distros still i consider myself to be a rookie.

i think i should download the regular iso instead Wayland iso.

demm: Any ISO/install can run a X or Wayland session, just select which one you want on the login screen. The Wayland ISO is just set to start a Wayland session as default.

Sebastian Kulik: cannt find the passwords. Desktop starts to guide and asks for pwd..

Sebastian Kulik: try to start in text mode (from start-menue)- starts everytime the Wayland and give massage:...sddm.config ->cannot be found or written

Sebastian Kulik: well, started in text mode using "ro 3" argument. How can I install now the system on VM-disk? (used till now "normal way" from live-DVD&GUI)

Hi to everyone :-),
I'm starting to develop computer games and planning to support Linux. So far, my compilations work perfectly both in Windows 10 64b and Ubuntu 16.04 64b.
I've been using KaOS for a while (actually, it 's my favourite distro and the one that I use daily except for game testing) and I wonder what is the real interest of KaOS users on games that support KaOS, so could you answer to this?

demm: Exactly, but that also means for a dev of such a game it is correct to ask what his used distro thinks or supports. Your initial reply was about this should not be asked in KaOS but should be asked in some other distro channel.

Toderel Adrian-Aurel: Because you don't develop a linux game for kaos but for opengl or vulcan, x11 and/or wayland, qt or kde only, if you really want that, and so on. What can be developed for kaos by game dev team is that little pacman recipe who can make kaos integration by kaos package management team a more easy task. And that is a rara avis in linux world because of silly things like "NO, KaOS isn't for games but for work". If you, Eric Ciurana Marín, will do that in you game git repos, kaos will be a platform for you game even if kaos dev team will think is not. And if in a crazy frenzy some benevolent dictator for life will turn in a bad one explicitly excluding the game from kaos repos because is only a platform for work an instant distro fork will popup somewhere on the net because you need only one different opinion and only one man, Eric Ciurana Marín, to do that. Is that easy no more no less because gpl license is the best thing happening now in this universe.

My main workstation now running on Wayland. Screenshot taken over dbus (qdbus-qt5 org.kde.kwin.Screenshot /Screenshot screenshotFullscreen). It is getting closer and closer to be able to replace aging X.......

another question it's a "full wayland"? or it's running some stuff on xwayland?

demm: Plasma kwin_wayland is using xwayland.
All is very fast, GPU completely quiet, fan has not come on once yet.
Graphics are noticeably sharper.
To my surprise, this very first full blown test, to run anything and everything (using build chroots, so CPU is often maxed to 100% on all 4 cores) all is very stable, not a single crash today.
There are issues ofc in how plasma works, but the workarounds do not make it an impossible work-station.

Qt 5.6.0 moved to all users, with this a major improvement comes to plasma 5 and dual monitor support and monitor interaction in general. This also brings qtwebengine as the default base for the KaOS used web-browser, Qupzilla. This move also includes the all new Plasma 5.6.0 and a good 150 Qt 5 based packages rebuild for Qt 5.6. A wayland session is far more usable on Plasma 5.6.0, kwin is now integrated, you can move windows as usual, menu opens normal. With such a large update, make absolute sure your mirror is synced before starting this update.

demm: Anyone wanting to try a Live image with Qt 5.6.0 and Plasma 5, you can use this ISO http://mirror6.layerjet.com/kaos/KaOS-2016.03.18-x86_64.iso It is not a full ISO, no language packs, mostly just Plasma 5 apps.

It surprises me more and more how quickly this system is kept up to date. The workload is remarkable. Anke you sleeping at all yet ? Not suffering health !
The commands in Arch are my little familiar because I've used over 10 years, only Debian based distributions, but perhaps learn my old head ;-) still something to . :-)

A few days after KDE Applications 15.08.0 moved to all users, Plasma 5.4.0 is now available for all too.
This is ofc not such big news for KaOS since Plasma 5.4RC has been in use a few weeks now by all.
A few nice fixes since the RC have been added though, and some builds were altered some so it is now much easier to test a Plasma Wayland session. Kinit was adjusted, all new sddm with full Wayland support makes it possible to have not only Plasma in the sddm menu, Wayland for plasma shows, so does weston if you choose to add that to your install
New Qupzilla is moving to all users too, one of the first applications that normally heavily relies on X11 is now ready to run on both an X11 & Wayland session all from the same build/version.
New to the repo and moving now to all users is TOR.

Jorge Dangelo: Resolved, not because he did not have installed kdeplasma-addons

demm: Application Dashboard is not in addons, it is in plasma-desktop, part of all KaOS default installs.
Sounds more like an update done and no reboot or restart of plasma........

Jorge Dangelo: I made several reboots after the update, then install from octopi kdeplasma-addons and appeared Application Dashboard in alternatives.

Kevin Shen: Love to see KDE to be the next fully usable Wayland desktop environment after Gnome.

Kevin Shen: +Shalok Shalom It's not default, though there's a 'Gnome on Wayland' session to login to if you use gdm. Gnome applications are mostly running directly on Wayland as far as I know, for others they run via xwayland which is pretty much seemless.
