The Chinese Mantis, Tenodera sinensis, is an all time favorite of mine. The typical life span is around a year, however certain individuals and populations may live for different periods, depending upon environmental conditions and other factors, such as predation and human influence. One of the more common species among breeders, this insect makes a very popular pet.

Calosoma scrutator, otherwise known as the Fiery Searcher Beetle, is a species of hunting Carabid (ground beetle) found throughout North America, and although it is not as commonly bred among private breeders, there are hobbyists that attempt to rear them.

C. scructator is very coveted among both public and private collections for it's reflective green color, and is known for the red that borders it's pronotum.

I caught a giant praying mantis last night at a pool. It gave me a nasty scratch but I still caught it.
