Top 5 Search Engine Ranking Factors from Moz

By the regular updates of Google algorithm, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a game with ever changing rules. The things that helped websites to reach the top ranking in search engine last year has no relevancy or priority in current SEO strategies.

Just as a reminder, everyone is welcome to share interesting content (even your own) if you think it is of value to the community.

The one (that was) below http://screencast.com/t/JjKJr0YxtmcE is nothing more than self-promotional advertising, so I have removed it.

Please share, but do so thinking about the community and not yourself!

How important does everyone think link building still is? As important as Social Media in today's SEO?

Both ... its important to me to remember why the blog is there... to drive traffic to the websites and also to become a knowledge hub.  I can achieve both with internal and external linking.

Getting Rid of a Google Malware Warning

Our site was hacked a couple of weeks ago and was a bit of a nightmare. I've also had quite a few people ask me recently about how to get your site back up and running after a malware attack. With this in mind I've written a quick post on how to do it. Hopefully it helps you out :)

That's the worst thing you could have when some one clicks your site on Google results page and finds the Malware Warning!.

My little (and quite boring) story....

About a year n half ago -and as i was no longer in full timework - i got 'nominated' by my dad to give his photography biz abit more online exposure now that her had returned to the UK from abroad. So, with little or no experience other than general online and PC know how i went on the worlds steepist learning curve for about two months on how to initiate, and build a website with some form of interegrated SEO so it could rank reasonibly high on google serps.

This was/is my first website and built it from scratch in what turned out to be a rather competatitve market (professional photography) so i kinda had to get the SEO right from the outset or there seemed very little point. I know my site isn't the most groud breaking  thing ever but in my eyes i like to thin i have done a pretty good job considering that on the lead up to being 'nominated' i amnot sure i really even know what the letters SEO even stood for.

The story does go on but i am already boring myself. I am sure there are some seasoned SEO pro's here i can bug for answers to silly questions, but also quite interested in other ppl like myself that are striking out by themselves for the first time so they then run there own small business website.

lol hope so. I'm lucky that i have always been able to pick up on things fairly quickly and think ahead. So the site isn't doing too badly at the mo.

So then, G+. Ha anyone got any idea how well it is doing in the uk? Take up seems a bit slow. i did wonder whther it was worth joining at all.

Hi Simon, and welcome!

I'm glad to hear you're getting interested in SEO. You're right that much of what you read, particularly here on G+, is US based. This is why I started this community in the first place, to have a place for only UK based practitioners of digital marketing.

Feel free to ask questions or initiate discussions, we'd be happy to join in and help where we can!

That's interesting +Daniel Bianchini , thanks. I haven't tried either of those so it'd be good to have an experiment. I'm still looking for a tool that is powerful and updates its tracking frequently. Been thinking about Authority Labs (http://authoritylabs.com/) as a potential candidate.
