+Nick NCARB, I'm back! hoping to get some help from you on SS! taking the exam Monday. Can i draw joists on a roof system as one entire system or in the image shown for the higher roof, would i need to draw three separate deck systems? same question for beams on the lower roof. Can I draw one long beam or do i have to break them up at each column?

I didn't look at any solutions, wanted to take a stab at it with no help at all on my first pass. any other comments on the images below?

Thanks in advance.

also, i know its near the holiday, so if anyone else can respond just in case Nick is on vacation, that would be great. +Ryan NCARB +Joan NCARB

Can anyone tell me what the content of the Thaddeus seminar is in general? I am trying to figure if I would benefit from it, or if to me the subjects are familiar enough to live without the seminar. Please give me your opinions.

Hello Everyone,
New to the community! I would like everyones advice.......

Here is my story.....
I have passed 6 exams and left structures for my final exam. I have now taken this last test and failed it for the 7th time! I feel like that is unheard of!

Questions:
1. Does anyone know if you have a maximum amount you can take a single test?
2. Looks like I have 1 last chance to take it in 4.0 in April and if I don't pass that, I will need to transition and end up taking (2) exams to finish in 5.0. Is anyone else in this situation too?

Thanks

Passed SS, my last exam! Huge thanks to Thaddeus and +Terry NALSA. Good luck to all.

I failed SS again! ARGH! I got a Level 2 on General Structures. Everything else I passed. What do you suggest I study from to pass this? I have Kaplan and Ballast. I used Thaddeus, Designerhacks.com, and Archiflash as well. I feel like there's a lot of information out there but knowing what to use is what's keeping me back. I really felt good about this test too!

Quick question everyone, if on the vignette, I'm in a situation where my joist have to span more than 30',say 32' is that an automatic fail? Or a major error? Or a minor error?

Hello All,
Can you please review my first attempt at the Structural System vignette, solution attached below.

Can someone please shine some light on the following questions I had as well?
1. How does the given heights of openings and heights of different roofs come into play when solving the vignette?
2. Per the NCARB program, "The window wall and the clerestory window extend to the underside of the structure above. All other openings have a head height of 7 ft above finish floor", how is this information supposed to affect or dictate our design?
3. I am breaking beams at each column center and redrawing the other segment, instead of drawing one long beam. I saw few people recommending this on the forum, however the NCARB video on youtube suggests that we can draw one continuous beam. Any clarifications would be highly helpful.
4. Finally, why do we not need a beam on the West side of common area on lower framing plan but need one on the east side?

Thank you all in advance for the help +Nick NCARB +Ryan NCARB +Michelle NCARB +Terry NALSA
